MAASIN CITY (31 January 2006) -- In the year 2008, the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) will not anymore donate different contraceptive supplies to the local government units throughout the province.
Integrated Provincial Health Office Midwife !V Victoria Generan revealed during an interview that due to the changes, Contraceptive Distribution Logistics Information System (CDLMIS) conducted a training to rural health nurses and midwives here at Ampil Pensione, Maasin City, January 31, 2006.
USAID will start a gradual reduction yearly on the supplies of contraceptives which the local government units depended for twenty years. Before the year 2008, LGUs will now give their counterpart in the purchase of said supplies, Generan said.
Series of planning workshops were already made throughout the (18) municipalities and (1) city, this province, in preparation for the revision of CDLMIS, she said. LGU will base their purchase on the needs of their clients.
Two options were mentioned by Generan. First, the client will be the one to buy the contraceptive if they can afford it, and second, the LGU will be the one to purchase the supply if the client can’t afford to buy.
The one-day training sponsored by Local Enhancement and Development (LED) was attended by two health personnel in each Rural Health Units throughout the province and the members of the CDLMIS technical group.
IPHO Provincial Health Officer Dr. Leonardo Eway welcomed the participants andthe training was facilitated by representatives from JSI, a private entity and Management Science for Health, Generan further added. (PIA-Maasin)
