Nation mourns passing of a religious leader
by Aleli Aggasid-Batara
Laoag City (24 June 2005) -- The death of Jaime Cardinal Sin, a known advocate of national unity, reconciliation and cooperation, should convince our political leaders to temporarily set aside their personal agenda in due deference to the former archbishop and work instead to improve the plight of the poor - who were closest to his heart.

Sin succumbed to multiple organ failure in the early morning of Tuesday at the Cardinal Santos Medical Center in San Juan after his long struggle with diabetes and kidney problem. He was 76 years old.
President Arroyo has declared a week of national mourning for the Catholic leader who was instrumental in the ouster of two Philippine presidents in a bloodless revolution.

The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) has reported that the exchange rate closed today at P55.60 to $1 and the main stock index fell to its lowest in the week.

The continuing negative reaction from the investors and the market is indicative of the adverse impact of the conflict thus the need for the final resolution of the problem.
The House hearing on tape scandal is under way but is going at a slow pace because of the procedural debates between administration and opposition lawmakers.

The deliberation is but natural and is necessary to ensure proper resolution of the problem. What is important is that there is already a proper venue in place and to discuss the matter. (PIA)

John 3:16-18 ESV
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son (Jesus Christ), that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God.
