Japanese volunteers offer services to LGUs
Tacloban City (October 1 2006) –- Japan Overseas Cooperation Volunteers are looking for possible places of assignment to various municipalities particularly in Luzon and in the Visayas.

This was learned from Ms. Yumi Balse, Assistant Resident Representative/JOVC Coordinator of Japan International Cooperation Agency, Philippine Office.

The Japan Overseas Cooperation Volunteers, Ms. Balse said, is one of the JUCA programs wherein Japanese/volunteers are assigned for two years in various municipalities and held in the fields of Community Development, Rural Development, Public Health Nurse and Nutrition.

Ms. Balse said interested municipalities may fill up an application form of the Philippine National Volunteer Service Coordinating Agency, expressing their interest to avail of the services of Japanese volunteers in their respective community just like what the municipality of Tanauan, Leyte just did.

Basically, the volunteers once deployed will stay in the municipality for two years through diplomatic channel. They will go through one month training orientation including learning the local dialect before dispatching officially.

The Recipient Agency as the Partner Agency is responsible in seeing to it that there is an on-going project activities and in making sure that an employee is assigned as permanent counterpart of the volunteer preferably of the same expertise for an effective transfer and sharing of knowledge and technology.

The Recipient Agency will also help in looking for a one week home-stay as part of the training orientation and to help look for an accommodation if the volunteer cannot be accommodated by the Recipient Agency.

The processing of deployment usually takes one or more after the submission of application, if the recruitment in Japan is successful. The volunteers usually have to pass English tests before they can be deployed in December, March or July which are the they deployment periods every year.

Presently, Japanese volunteers in the field of welding, have been dispatched at the Marcelino R. Veloso National Polytechnic College in Otabon, Tabango, Leyte and in the field of computer at Naval Institute of Technology in Biliran. (PIA 8) [top]
