Aklan detainees trained on proper waste management
KALIBO, Aklan, January 31, 2012 (PIA) -- Inmates of the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) in Aklan were oriented recently on the importance of proper waste management through an orientation/seminar on Ecological Solid Waste Management conducted by the local government of Kalibo.
A report released by Kalibo’s Public Affairs, Information and Community Development (PAICD) bared that the orientation/seminar, conducted by the Municipal Solid Waste Management Services, aimed to educate the detainees and the personnel of the BJMP on proper waste management, which they could impart in turn to their families.
The Municipal Solid Waste Management Services is directly under the office of Kalibo Mayor William S. Lachica.
The inmates BJMP inmates were oriented on proper waste segregation and disposal.
According to SJINSP Benny Freddie C. Cobarde, BJMP warden, teaching inmates on proper waste segregation is essential as part of the programs of their rehabilitation facility which also generates waste materials.
Cobarde added that the activity, which he requested to be held for the inmates, is part of the Therapeutic Community Modality Program of the BJMP.
Cobarde also explained to the 125 BJMP inmates that the basis of the training is Republic Act 9003, from which Municipal Ordinance No. 2009-004 is anchored.
In other provinces, Cobarde said the law has been instrumental in the putting up of sanitary landfills.
The Community Modality Program of the BJMP in Aklan is a continuing education program to inform the inmates of the country’s current existing laws. (JCMVGV PIA 6 Aklan)
