Bacolod destroys fake products
Bacolod City - The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) together with the local government of Bacolod destroyed fake tiles and lighters to discourage businessmen from selling fake products to unwary buyers.
The act was part of the celebration of the Consumer Welfare Month that gained the support of the city’s mayor, Evelio Leonardia, who gave the go signal for graders to crush merchandise worth P82, 000 worth in the city hall grounds.
The activity aims to show the serious commitment of the local government unit and DTI to bar the entry of counterfeit products in the Bacolod market.
DTI Provincial Director Rebecca Rascon praised the city’s cooperation in the implementation of RA 7394 that penalizes the sale of fake products and hopes that in 2011 and in years to come, the drive will gain more support.
Max Ravena of DTI disclosed that five companies found involved in the sale of counterfeit products (tiles) were fined P17, 500 each.
Ravena added that they have recently discovered minimal violations and recidivists will be punished with bigger fines.
Meanwhile, Ernesto Pineda from the office of the mayor disclosed that his Price Monitoring Council conducted a massive saturation drive recently, on the RA 71 or the Price Tag Law and RA 3883, the Business Name Law, and the “Kiluhan ni Mayor”.
Pineda pointed out that the cooperation of buyers in the apprehension of violators is imperative and that a consumer desk has been set up in all major markets receive complaints. CMO/PIA/EAD)
