PGMA should be applauded for taking responsibility - Bunye
MANILA (28 June 2005) -- "She (President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo) should be applauded for taking responsibility."
This was the statement made by Press Secretary and Presidential Spokesman Ignacio Bunye after President Arroyo courageously admitted responsibility in what she called "lapse in judgement," and appealed to the Filipino people for forgiveness and to rally behind her to help forge One Philippines.
Bunye said the President's admission and apology show that she was strong, confident, and truthful as she addressed the issue head-on with full command of the situation.
He pointed out that the "wiretapped" controversy is nothing more than a lapse of judgement, and bears no element of illegality or impeachable offense.
The Palace official assured the nation that President Arroyo won fair and square in the May 2004 elections, and that the Cabinet is fully behind her as the people support her decision.
"While no doubt the opposition will continue to stir the plot, for most reasonable people, I think this issue is now behind us," Bunye added. (PIA-MMIO)
