BAYOMBONG, Nueva Vizcaya, Dec. 31 2010 (PIA) -- Police Senior Superintendent Elmer Beltejar, police provincial director here warned policemen and civilian gun owners and enthusiasts not to use their guns to celebrate the coming of the new year.
"Let us use other ways to celebrate new year. Do not fire your guns and be with your family instead," Beltejar, in a public statement here stressed.
He made the statement in line with the PNP directive, ordering cops to refrain from using their own firearms during the celebration of the new year.
Beltejar warned that any policeman and civilian who will be caught in firing their guns will be charged administratively and criminally.
"Cops who will be violating this directive will be charged with grave misconduct punishable by dismissal from the service while civilians will face illegal discharge of firearms and if somebody will be hurt, they will also face criminal charges," Beltejar said.
He however reminded policemen on duty to use their firearms in cases of emergencies and in line with the performance of their duties specially this new year.
"We are ready to help our constituents in cases of emergencies this coming new year. Let us respect each other and be vigilant always in our community," Beltejar added.
Meanwhile, the Bureau of Fire Protection(BFP) in the province is on alert status in preparation for the coming new year's day celebration.
BFP personnel have been doing surprise inspections on firecracker stalls, capturing prohibited pyrotechnics.
