Tacloban City (1 December 2005) -- The public's eyes are now all turned to the Senate after the House of Representatives passed a resolution calling for a constituent
assembly to change the country's charter.
Will the Senate follow suit and decide on it? Or will the Senate sit on it in favor of other agenda which it deem more important than the much-needed charter
change? This is the ten dollar question which only the members of the Philippine Senate can answer.
The move, if similarly approved by the Senate will mean that the two chambers will form themselves into a single body to
draft the constitutional amendments that could usher in a parliamentary form of government for the country.
Earlier, Senator Pimentel signified his intention to
support constituent assembly. This is seen as a positive move as this gives the possibility that his allies in the Senate would follow suit.
President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo described the passage of the resolution in the House as the first step towards sweeping political changes. Majority of the Filipinos join President Arroyo's appreciation on the action of the House on the
mode of effecting Charter amendments which is seen as the beginning of a broader consensus for the better future of the
Philippines.
The people are waiting for their leaders to deliver the final whack to venomous politics. The Filipinos are expecting their leaders to open the entrance of political,
economic and social renaissance of the country.
The time calls for unity behind a common destiny. This is a clear clamor of the Filipinos today. This is where the people are placing their hope for a better Philippines.
