Feature: Bethel int'l school in Tacloban prepares children for the modern world

Tacloban City (October 1 2006) -– With the aim of preparing children for the modern world, the Bethel International School of Tacloban sponsored an Art Exhibit over the week-end featuring Bethel International School Students and renowned guest artists Mar Vidal and Gabby Abellana.

The Art exhibit which was held at the Kanluran Building, Bethel International School on September 29, was a big hit since it featured the pastel paintings of the students from Grades I to Grade VII.

Mr. Mar Vidal and Mr. Gabby Abellana taught the children the intricacies in painting and helped them to display their paintings.

Mar Vidal is one of Cebu’s finest artists. He has received various awards and citations and has done so many exhibits. His professional works include a one-day exhibition entitled “Mactan’s Best” at Waterfront Hotel in Lapu-Lapu City in 1997, among others.

Gabby Abellana is an award-winning artist having been the first prize awardee in the 2003 Cebu Modern Art Contest at the Montebello Hotel, Cebu City; Gold Medalist in the Annual Joya Award, Abstract Category, UP Cebu in 1982, among others.

Some of the paintings of the two Cebu artists were displayed and were for sale. The children’s works of art were mounted on both sides of the wall and were to be sold to those interested to buy them but the parents expressed their desire to buy them themselves so that they could have them framed and kept as souvenirs as their children’s first paintings.

The proud parents were so surprised their children could learn to paint in so short a time. Some did not even know their children have the talent for painting. The Art exhibit is a revelation of their children’s latent talents which must be developed. The beautiful subjects of the paintings will open the eyes of the children in the beautiful things which God created.

No less than Tacloban City Mayor Alfredo Romualdez was present to cut the ribbon together with Mr. Paul Varberg, the school administrator and Mr. Richard Ang, the PTA president. Also present were some guests like Tanauan Mayor Roque A. Tiu, PIA Director Olive Tiu and Mrs. Cristina G. Romualdez whose daughter is also enrolled at Bethel . (PIA 8) [top]

John 3:16-18 ESV
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son (Jesus Christ), that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God.
