2016 News File: Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology for the Department of Science and Technology (PHIVOLCS-DOST) revealed due to the 2013 earthquake, Bohol is closer to Cebu by 55 cms. Although not much, but it says a lot about the magnitude of the quake that hit the province causing massive damage to property and infrastructure.
PHIVOLCS Director Renato Solidum, Jr. said the beauty of Bohol is a product of disastrous events. Formation of the island itself is a product of millions of years of transformation and the changes still happen. Nonetheless, the agency has been working to map out hazard areas to make sure people are prepared in any eventuality such as earthquakes.
The agency was here last week for a three-day teachers’ training in communicating disasters for selected Tagbilaran City high school teachers.
