Playing of "audiotapes" up to Congress - Bunye
MANILA (23 June 2005) -- The decision on whether or not any "audiotapes" will be played is up to the House of Representative's committees handling the wiretapping investigation.
The statement was issued by Press Secretary and Presidential Spokesman Ignacio Bunye as lawmakers bickered whether or not to have the recordings played in open session of the Lower House' probing of the alleged wiretapped conversation to rig the May 2004 election.
Bunye said the present administration respects the Congress committees' ruling on the matter.
Meanwhile, the Palace official expressed concern that the on-going probe may deviate from the real issue that the "tape" was dubious in origin.
"We are for the truth on this matter, but we hope that the on-going investigation would not be further exploited in fueling political unrest or media hype," he added. (PIA-MMIO)
