Only 3 schools in Bicol offering nursing course post average performance in PRC exams
by NI Mediavillo

LEGAZPI CITY (24 June 2005) -- Among the higher educational institutions in Bicol offering the nursing course only three are classified by the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) as average performers relative to the number of graduates passing the examinations administered by the Professional Regulations Commission (PRC).

This was learned from CHED Bicol regional director Dominador Peralta who identified the said HEIs as Universidad de Sta. Isabel in Naga City, Bicol University Main Campus in Legazpi City and the Bicol University Tabaco campus in Tabaco City.
Peralta said that these three HEIs in Bicol have reached passing averages, among their graduates that took the PRC examinations, that fall within the 50 per cent to 74 per cent passing average classification.

He said that based on the CHED ranking of 175 HEIs nationwide offering the nursing course, USI is ranked no. 53 with a passing average of 60.02 per cent, BU Legazpi is ranked No. 59 for a passing average of 57.08 per cent, and BU Tabaco ranked No. 64 for a 52.46 per cent passing average.

Based on the CHED nationwide ranking of the top HEIs nursing graduates passing the PRC examinations in the last five years, the University of the Philippines is first in the list of the top five performers nationwide with a 100 per cent passing average, followed by St. Paul College in Ilioilo (99.57 per cent), Siliman University (98.39 per cent), West Visayas State University (97 per cent) and University of Sto. Tomas for a 96.87 per cent clip.

Peralta said that the CHED in Bicol has also called the attention of 13 higher education institutions in the region regarding some courses being offered whose graduates showed poor performances in the PRC examinations in the last five ears.

He said in Monday's interview that so far eight of the 13 HEIs notified have sent their replies to the office. "These eight HEIs have asked the CHED for reconsideration in the courses being offered where graduates who took the PRC examinations could not account with the 8 per cent passing cut-off."

Peralta said that low performing HEIs need to enhance their graduates' performance in the PRC examinations by improving the teaching skills of the faculty, school facilities like laboratory and library for them to meet the new CHED guidelines. "The Commission in an en-banc resolution (No. 201 series of 2005) has raised the cut-off for passing the PRC examinations to 30 per cent starting 2008." (Radyo ng Bayan)

Romans 10:9-10
"If you declare with your mouth, Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved."
