Andahanons condemn smear campaign, defend new mayor

ANDA, BOHOL - Hundreds of Anda residents have condemned a smear campaign of the previous administration using the print media that undermined the tourism boom in the town and maligned the newly installed town mayor here.

In an online protest, Andahanons living here and abroad said that the news item “Anda tourism suffers slump; politics seen,” which saw print in a weekly newspaper in Bohol (not in the Bohol Chronicle), did not do justice to the 25-year struggle of the people here who fought hard in the May 2013 elections in order to topple a “conjugal regime” in the town.

In the said news item, it portrayed Anda as a neglected town in which seaweeds pushed ashore by monsoon winds were left unattended, allegedly causing dismay among tourists. It questioned the closure of the beach bar located near the town plaza, and is operated by the LGU here.

The report also claimed that Anda has an absentee mayor, an allegation dismissed by officials here as a pure demolition job and an act of desperation by those behind the publication of the “baseless” news item.

In a statement, the local government unit (LGU)-Anda said that the report was unfair, biased, and malicious, branding the writer behind the report as “coward” for not revealing his name in his article.

Officials said that the writer of the news article is known to be a long-time friend of the previous administration, who is bitter toward their political foes after suffering a crashing defeat during the last election despite massive kidnapping of voters and attempts of election manipulation.

“Whoever is behind the news, what he is doing is that is trying to tarnish the image of Anda and disregard the sincerity of Mayor Dodong Amper,” the statement said.

“BLACK PROPAGANDA napod ni, abi ninyo mao nang daghang mga samu sa baybayon tungod sa nag sunod sunod ang bagyo og habagat, dili na maatiman dayon ug panglimpyo kay dili pamahuman ug limpyo naa napoy samu madagsa. kanang nagpicture ana mga nagbantay lang na sila sa sayup sa bag-ong mayor,” said Hermilinda Visaya Berongoy in her facebook comment posted on the group AndaBohol.org.

According to a certain Juan Dela Cruz in his posting on Facebook, he said that the way the news article was being presented, “it could possibly be a paid campaign… most, if not all, of the quoted interviews were from the minions of the lords (referring to former town officials), yet mentioning only a very small portion of the (clarifications) of the mayor’s secretary.”

Another Andahanon, Terry Gultia Mainit, commented on the beach issue: “I think di na priority by this time kay I understand nga giuna ang sulod sa munisipyo, ang FUNDS kay giaju aju man ug hut hut sa unang namujo diha, so konting pacyencia lang barely 2 months lang silang nang lingkod,di pa na organized ng husto. Give the newly elected officials a chance.”

Reacting to the temporary closure of the bar pending investigation of corruption and mismanagement, former town councilor Carlos C. Tinio Jr. said:

“The previous regime alloted 2million pesos for the operating expense for year 2013 for this Anda beach bar which i questioned knowing that this was supposed to be an enterprise entered into by the LGU of Anda, at bakit ang fUNDS nito ang gagamitin for this purpose,,, mabuti na lang napalitan na sila and i think our honorable Mayor dodong amper is smart enough to do some changes for this SCAM. karon kinsa mag apura nga ablihan ang beach bar knowing nga daghan mga pangutana. whoever reported this and published on the local bohol newspaper was just pure hearsay at hindi dapat pagka abalahan.”

In a separate reaction online, Malyn Acacio-Deloy, of the Office of the Mayor, said: “Ajaw mo ka too anang g post nga 90thou income to tell u frankly andahanon sugod sa enero hangtod sa june duha ra ka booklet amo gkit an resibo sa beach bar asa ra mag uban oi igawas aron naa evidence tinuod abot bag 90k ang income kda buwan before mo mag post pakita ebidensya d kay storya ray mag labon. kanang g ingon nga pirme was mayor adto opisina ipakita naho travel ug communication ni mayor sa mga seminar aron matagbaw ka tawo nga palabaw ug storya hikaran ka naho sa ebidensya.”

John 3:16-18 ESV
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son (Jesus Christ), that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God.
