A 65-year-old woman shot herself Saturday in the parking lot of the Far East Dallas gun shop where she had just bought a pistol.

People inside McClelland Gun Shop heard the shot and called police about 2:15 p.m. The woman, Harriet Deison of Dallas, was found inside her Lexus sedan in the 1500 block of Centerville Road, near Garland and Jupiter roads.

The gun Deison is believed to have shot herself with is the same one she had just purchased, Dallas police Sgt. Shelley Johnston said.

Police said they did not find a suicide note at the scene.

Investigators will verify that the shop followed procedures before selling the weapon, Johnston said.

No one answered the phone at the gun shop.
