Netanyahu, Trump hold phone talk about Iran's "nuclear threats"
JERUSALEM, March 7 (PNA/Xinhua) -- The U.S. President Donald Trump called Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Monday evening and the two discussed Iran's "nuclear threats," the prime minister's office said in a statement.
The statement said that the phone talk was focused on the "dangers posed by the nuclear agreement with Iran and Iranian aggressions in the region."
Netanyahu is a vocal opponent of the nuclear deal, which was signed between Iran and the world powers. He has been calling to cancel the agreement ever since it was signed in 2015.
During Trump's presidential campaign, he said the agreement was "a bad deal."
However, head of the International Atomic Energy Agency, Yukiya Amano, said Monday he was confident of "very good cooperation" with the U.S. on the nuclear deal, despite Trump's hardline remarks.
Amano was speaking with reporters in Vienna following a meeting with U.S. Secretary of State Rex Tillerson in Washington last Thursday.
The talk between Trump and Netanyahu was held as police investigators were questioning Netanyahu at his official residence in Jerusalem over his possible involvement in two separate corruption cases. (PNA/Xinhua)
