palmbeachpost.com - Nelder Lester can't get it out of her head. The image of her 2-year-old daughter's last minutes, struggling to breathe in a baking van in the driveway of a Delray Beach day care center.
Authorities can't tell Lester how long Haile Brockington sat strapped in her seat, unable to move, on Thursday before she lost consciousness and died.
"I don't want to keep thinking she was in the seat belt trying to catch her breath," Lester said, stopping to gasp for breath herself.
"I don't know if she tried to get out. She might have been trying to bang on the door," she said, sobbing on Saturday as she made arrangements for Friday's funeral. "The windows (of the van) are tinted. If they weren't tinted, somebody would have saw her."
