One of my favorite Roman Emperors throughout the post Julii era.

Septimus Severus.

A brilliant tactician, and a diplomatic animal. His mastery of the legions maintained the empire and his tactical brevity hammered into submission the would be enemies of the empire, namely the visigoths and vandals.

One of the longest reigning emperors, aside from August The Great, himself.

Caesar Augustus

He was by Senatorial Decree named as 'Pater Patriae Romanum' (Father of the Fatherland).

His reign was one of the longest and most prosperous times for the Roman Empire. His 40 year long reign was regarded as "Pax Romanum" or "Roman Peace".

This man was so loved and revered by the Roman people that upon his death in AD 14, during his Imperial Crematorium, hundreds of onlookers swore by the name of Jupiter the Avenger that they saw the soul of Augustus rise into heaven.

That very year, the members of the Senate, upon fervent request of the Plebians, proclaimed Augustus as the Divine, thereby promulgating him into Godhood. That very year, and years after, the cult of Divus Augustus was observed. He was so loved by the people that the Romans refused to accept that he was dead. Instead, willed it that he was a god, so that Augustus could never be truly 'dead'.

Definitely one of the greatest, if not THE greatest Emperor in Roman History. A brilliant tactician and probably one of the greatest expanders of the empire. 40 million people lived and died under his Imperial rule.
