Slavery has been part of human civilization since the beginning. So long as there are those who are strong and will use their power on those who cannot defend themselves; there will always be a presence of slavery. Varying degrees and forms will differ.
It is an embarrassment for human kind that such forms are alive to this day. And a reminder of how far we have to go to progress.
I remain skeptical in man's ability to totally eradicate slavery. Man craves power; slavery is a product of power.
