Mike,

I'm sure that Hubag would have divulged his opposition to the improper use of syntax, adjective, pronoun, adverb, verb, tensing, and predicates.

Why Tagalog should not be used as a medium of instruction in Philippine schools?

- I used Cebuano/Bol-anon dialect to transact business, communicate with friends, colleagues, and family. I don't even have a problem with TAGALOG/Filipino either. English? never mind, I bought my grades just to graduate.

Why should Tagalog be the national language? Cebu, the Queen City of the South, was the first Spanish Colony in the Philippines and was the original capital. I say Cebuano should be the National Language.

Tagalog sounds so annoying. Tagalog speakers sound like they're whining and complaining. Cebuano is far more masculine-sounding and pleasing to hear. :)

I can't  forget my first excuse letter when I was a first high school student. The body of the letter goes this way:

Please excuse me Ma'am for being absent yesterday because my broken bone is cold. (Gipanuhot ang akong piang.)

When I went back to the Philippines in 2010 (after 12 years since my last visit) , I was quite fascinated by the Visayan word , "Panuhot". When I visited Southern Leyte , the land of my paternal ancestors (as I do have Waray-Leyteno blood vis-a-vis my father's side), I was instructed to visit a local healer.

My whole family and I took the barge from Ubay, Bohol to the City of Maasin, Southern Leyte. The trip took some 4 hours and by the time I arrived to Leyte I was sick and had fever.

After 5 hours of driving from Maasin to the Panaon Island, Southern Leyte , we arrived to the town of Pintuyan (my father's ancestral town). I don't know why but I was sick. I was coughing, hacking, sweating and developed a severe fever. So I was told by great-aunt to visit a local healer, oddly enough the local healer was a distant relative of my father's. His last name was Estrella, but his mother was a Lucino (my paternal clan).

I was instructed to take off my clothes and he started blowing smoke on me, and whispered some words to which I had no clue nor understanding what it meant. Maybe some kind of local medicinal therapy. He then started to massage me and said that I was stricken with 'panuhot'. So he continued to massage me for 2 hours, with extreme effort. All the while he was praying , the words of which i had no clue nor understanding.

I fell asleep during this time. When he woke me up, some 2 hours later, to my surprise, na wa ahong ailment. My coughing subsided, my fever went away, and the headache I had was gone. Completely.

Before this I did not believe in 'panuhot' and its effects. After this, I don't deny it gayod. :)

reaction from Josefina Timogan, a teacher

The letter reflected to the teachers. It only shows that the teachers did not provide the right quality of education to students. We may laugh at it but it is not the child's fault. We must blame the teachers because in the first place teachers should teach their students how to speak and write English well. Can all teachers speak and write English well? It is the universal language which therefore we as teachers should know English speaking and writing so that we can teach our children the right English.

PAGMATA NA!!! LIHOK NA!!! Ang mga bata gatan-aw nato dili kay kita ang motan-aw ug mo correction sa sayop sa mga bata!!!

ISN'T IT A SLAP ON OUR FACE??? Huh, Teachers???

Amen to that! I have been called prejudiced in my party because I invited only visaya group.I explained to my friends that even one person in a group speaks tagalog ,then everyone is speaking tagalog. It ruins the fun of listening the jokes and conversation in visayan dialect.Plus I am ashamed to admit that I  more fluent in english than Tagalog. I don't even know when to use the Ho & the Po. :-[

Bisaya Daku !  :)

When I was back home last year (July 2010), I was quite amazed at how some Bisaya will speak Tagalog after working in Manila for even a couple of months. One of our house helpers has a sister who worked in Manila for 6 months (she is 27) and we hired her to help in the kitchen. So ning balik siya sa Bohol to work for us. But what I really found annoying was that in my house she was talking to me in Tagalog.

I said to her, "Ngano mag tagalog man ka ? Tagalog diay ka? Ka ingon ko taga Inabanga ka?". After that , I she started talking again in Bol-anon.

My point is: be proud of your land of birth and your native dialect. When i was back in Philippines (Bohol-Cebu-Leyte), I did not speak in American English , but tried to speak in Bisaya all throughout. Ngano mag english - english man when kahibalo man diay mag sinulti og binisaya diba? Pariho ra pod og ngano mang tagalogtagalog when kahibalo man diay mag binisaya.

Bisaya is not an inferior language to Tagalog. We are made to think so just because Tagalog is the language of the "capital city". Bisayas constitute the bulk of the members of the armed forces, bisayans constitute a bulk of medical doctors, bisayans are productive and hard working, educated and family oriented.

When I am introduced to Filipinos at the hospital, they always ask what part of the Philippines I am from, and I am proud to say, "I am from BOHOL." And I am not ashamed to tell them when they start speaking in Tagalog, "Oh, I'm sorry, I only speak Bisaya."

Hehehe!

They say this thing that makes me laugh very hard, "Ahhh okhhhayyy langg". Murag baji-baji-hon. :P

Mo ingon pod ni sila , "At chaka ..." ha ha. Sounds very effeminate.

One tagalog male nurse said to me, "Okhhhayy ba yan, Doc?" I could not help but laugh and smile.

I said back, "Okhhhaaaayy , lagi!" bwahahaha
