Boxing trainer Freddie Roach suspects that
Juan Manuel Marquez’s bulked up physique may have been a product of performance enhancing drugs (PEDs).
What roused the trainer’s suspicions on Marquez’s rapid muscle growth are the Mexican’s ties with Angel “Memo†Hernandez, who reportedly supplied PEDs to former track stars Marion Jones and Tim Montgomery.
"If [his body] is natural, I will kiss his ass,'' Roach told Jon Saraceno of USA Today.
Marquez, who typically campaigns as a lightweight, used to have troubles gaining size as a welterweight.
But when he started working with Hernandez (who had been convicted of doping) for the third Pacquiao fight, his body began making sizable gains. This has made Marquez a more durable fighter, capable of withstanding most of Pacquiao’s punches.
