Accordingly, Fiestas are like capital poured into investment. The have to be celebrated grandly to ensure good life ahead. If one wishes for more harvest from feilds or sea, or more luck in the business or emplopyment, physical healing, more rain then one ought to dole out quality meals in a fiesta celebration. I don't think anything bad will happen to us if we don't celebrate but for sure something bad will happen to us if we celebrate fiesta that we can not afford of! lol

Fiesta is supposed to be a celebration of the patron saints.  It still is but what is a celebration without food in our country!  Food gathers people and the celebration is extended to enjoying family and friendship and most of all the blessings we have had in the past year!

Fiestas are a bonding event for the people of a particular municipality; one way for all of the people to gather the riches of the year's agricultural feats and share with the local people. Our own indigenous version of the American 'ThanksGiving'.

We are thanking the Lord God for the bounty of a successful year; a way of giving and receiving.

And I plan to attend some fiestas this coming June-July-early August. ;) Anyone want to join me?

There are still bring houses but not like the parades of food and persons you could see five years ago walking in lines down each opposite direction of the shoulders in the street carrying their cellophane bags full up what not for eats?

Fiesta last year in Tagbilaran was so different being that it was so close to election time and Mayor did not want fiesta banners and decorations as such in the down town area so unless you had gone to someones house for fiesta then you knew it was a fiesta.

I had gone to three of them last May 1, Governor Aumentados 2.) congressman Chatto 3.) Atty. Lims.

No i do not ask bring house for me its embarrassing but if offered now.......thats a whole different story! :D

you cook lechon paksiw?  wow, that's good!  I hope to taste your lechon paksiw soon!  At least there in the Philippines, one can just buy a kilo or even less of lechon then cook into lechon paksiw, here in California, we really have to order/buy the whole roasted pig to be able to have leftover for lechon paksiw!

what desserts do you like, Precious?

I am amazing actually I can make many dish's Filipino style.

I had a fiesta once and it knocked me down literally, I had prepared more then 20 varieties of foods for my guest here.

Believe me it was hurot even media persons even came here to eat as they had never been to a fiesta where persons who are of foreign blood make fiesta's?

I was not even in media back in those days. It was the talk of the air waves, and the even almost took up a half page in a spotlight section in the paper I now write in.

I have always been into cooking and baking up a storm wait until you guys try my mouth watering cookies called cathedral window?.......oh maaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaan melt in your mouth! (Okay girls I hear laughing when you read this!)

What will happen if we don't celebrate Fiestas?

The Dia de Fiesta system was actually part of the religious pillar of Pax Hispanica, one modality that the Spanish Empire and the Roman Catholic Episcopacy, under the auspices of the Spanish Royal Crown and the religious friars, utilized to christianize the so called 'heathen' natives. Prior to the advent of Spanish colonization, the majority of Filipinos lived in rural villages (some ranging from 2 to 100 families), but after the advent of Spanish colonization, the establishment of the barangay, the barrio, the poblacion, the municipal and the cuidad helped to organize the people and allow the soft and easy flow of  information, faster trade and the manifestation of civility, in the eyes of the European, was reached in prudent potentiality.

Even after the conquest of the Philippines and the erection of religious churches, the majority of the Filipinos still lived at some distance from the parish church.

This is where we see the Fiesta being implemented to augment the evangelization of the Philippines. The fiesta system and the founding of sodalities, on the other hand, reached out to embrace the whole scattered population of the parish. Although the majority of Filipinos preferred to live near their rice fields, they could be lured periodically into the cabecera village. The enticement was the fiesta. There were three fiestas of consequence to the Filipinos, namely Holy Week, Corpus Christi, and the feast in honor of the patron saint of locality. The parishioners flocked to the cabecera villages for these occasions. Not only did the fiestas provide a splendid opportunity to indoctrinate the Filipinos by the performance of religious rituals, but they also afforded the participants a welcome holiday from the drudgery of toil. The religious processions, dances, music and theatrical presentations of the fiestas gave the Filipino a needed outlet for their natural gregariousness. Sacred and profane blended together.
