Post some of your favorite military vehicle, vessel, craft etc.
Post the name of the vehicle, and the nation it belongs to.

This should entice the military guys to go ga-ga in here ;)

Awaken! Ye War Hawks !

So let me start,

The USS Nimitz, Super Carrier
The super carrier can carry over 5,000 men, support up to 40 fighter jets.
It is nuclear powered, as well as carries thermonuclear warheads on the bowels of its hull.
It carries a 360 deg. Pin-point defense that can take down any hostile fighter within 20-50 miles of its radius. It's missile defense can take out any anti-carrier exorcet missile (or similar missile).

In the bowels of its ship, it carries anti-submarine capability, via pin-point depth charges, and seeking torpedos. This carrier can hold up to 2,000 marines, and can coordinate a sea-borne invasion of any nation in the world. So long as it has access to oil refueling.

The United States has 18 of such carriers in the world's oceans.

The Russian Sovremenny Class (Type 956) Destroyer

This is, by so far, the largest and most powerful surface ship in the world.
The Sovremenny Class destroyer was the Pride of the Soviet Union, as well is STILL the Pride of the Russian Federational Naval Fleet.

Its firepower is unsurpassed, and can easily damage even destroy an American AEGIS destroyer if placed in a 1 to 1 scenario.

The sovremenny can fire multiple exorcet missiles (anti-carrier) and can damage if not sink a carrier, foolish enough to allow the Sovremenny coordinate an offensive. The armament of this destroyer is a quagmire for those who oppose its guns, as it can take a heavy beating of torpedos, air-to-surface missiles and guided bombs before it can sink.

The destroyer, technically, can carry series of ICBMs (inter continental ballistic missiles---AKA---Nukes).

The Soviet Union Supreme Naval Fleet utilized the Sovremenny during the cold war and brought fear to the hearts of sailors of the American Navy.

USS Nicholson (DD 982)

USS NICHOLSON was the 20th ship in the SPRUANCE class and the fourth ship in the Navy to bear the name.

Originally homeported in Charleston, S.C., as part of Destroyer Squadron 6, NICHOLSON was later transferred to Norfolk Naval Shipyard, Portsmouth, Va., as part of Destroyer Squadron 18, and finally to Naval Station Norfolk.

Sailing on 11 deployments and wetting her keel in every ocean of the world, NICHOLSON has been awarded the Joint Meritorious Unit Award, Meritorious Unit Commendation, Navy Battle Efficiency Ribbon (five awards), National Defense Service Medal (two awards), Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal (four awards), Southwest Asia Service Medal (two awards), Sea Service Deployment Ribbon (eleven awards), Navy Arctic Service Ribbon and the Coast Guard Special Operations Service Ribbon (two awards).

On November 18, 1980, NICHOLSON started its first deployment and in 1999, she supported NATO Operation Allied Force by firing Tomahawk missiles on Yugoslav ground targets. Decommissioned on December 18, 2002, and stricken from the Navy list on April 6, 2004, the NICHOLSON was sunk as a target on July 30, 2004.

The Japanese Self Defense Navy,
is the largest of any Asian-navy,
Its military equipment is an combination of American and Japanese, or a hybrid of that.

The largest and strongest ship in the Imperial Japanese Navy is the DDG-174“??” Kirishima
It is by far the strongest ship in Asia-Pacific (that is not American)

The Japanese Imperial Navy has always indicated its 'offensive' capability; and even with its defensive-oriented constitution, the Japanese Navy outranks and out guns any navy in Asia. Even the People's Republic of China or India would not dare engage the Japanes Navy, for fear of its technological superiority.

French Rafale
« Reply #5 on: March 10, 2008, 01:47:54 PM »
The Rafale Supersonic Interceptor,

France's leading fighter.
Don't let its size fool you, this ship is quite agile, nimble, and dangerously fast.
It has proven itself against F-16s and sometimes, even F-18s.

Fast, powerful, yet not as expensive as the American F-16, F-15.

Its size and its fire power would be a realistic dream for the Philippine Air Force.
If the Philippine Air Force acquires 20-24 of these fighters, she can form 6 air squadrons (4 fighters per squadron), and thus form an effective umbrella over Philippine Air Space against foreign fighters.

Its interceptor abilities, and its tactile nature, as well as deadly ordinances and missile payloads would cut down any Malaysian, Chinese, Taiwanese fighter stupid enough to enter Philippine Air Space.

And it would make the Chinese re-consider its aggressive policy concerning the Spratleys and Philippine-occupied Kalayaan. Not to mention, make the Malaysians wet their pants whenever these fighters fly over Malaysian-squaterized Sabah State.  ;)
