PLCPD is stunned by the lack of honesty and sense of decency shown by the Alliance of Family Life Organizations and Family Life Philippines who claim responsibility for the purported Filipino Family survey that said Filipinos rejected the RH Bill. Whereas numerous independent surveys made by Pulse Asia and SWS since 1993 to 2009 has registered consistent and overwhelming support of Filipinos for family planning and reproductive health policy, this Family Life survey sponsored, conducted and announced by the same set of self-proclaimed pro-Life leaders attempts to project an entirely different result.
We question the fact that those who commissioned the Family Life Survey are the same persons who operates the HB & A International, the research firm that conducted the survey. Based on our inquiries, HB&A International is led by Dr. Joselito Sandejas as chairman and Tony Abaya as managing director. Dr. Sandejas is also the Chairman of Alliance of Family Life Organizations.
Simply put, the persons who commissioned the survey were the same persons who designed and proudly announced the deceiving result of this survey.
By asking leading questions, the Family Life survey produced the result that 90% of those who surveyed were not in favor with the salient points of the RH Bill, which include teaching children aged 10 to 11 to learn sex techniques with vivid pictures from male and female teachers who will explain only the biological and technical aspects of sex. Yet, there is nothing in the proposed RH Bill that mandates teaching of sex techniques.
Clearly this survey is part of continuing misinformation campaign of the anti-RH groups to veer away the Filipino people in voting for responsible candidates who are supportive of the reproductive health and other health and development issues in the upcoming elections.
PLCPD also cautions former Secretary Lito Atienza about his attacks on the person of Rep. Edcel Lagman. Contrary to Atienza’s claim that Cong. Lagman and other RH bill authors are fooling the Filipinos, the 130 authors of the bill and courageous members of Congress truly represent the sentiment of many women who primarily suffer from lack of reproductive health care and services by the government.
The very limited information on how the science and methods of Family Life Survey was conducted makes this initiative highly suspicious. This anti-RH survey is unverifiable contrary to the previous surveys conducted by the Social Weather Station and Pulse Asia were all related survey information were made available to the public and easily accessible through their websites..
If the intent is to show the real perception of the Filipino people on reproductive health, and not deceive the public on its actual results, then PLCPD demands from the Pro-Life Philippines and Alliance of Family Life Organizations to disclose the full results and methodology of this survey.
