The leaves or so-called â€œkamote topsâ€ are a good source of vitamins A, B and C, iron, calcium and phosphorus. The tubers (roots) are high in carbohydrates and are mainly starch. Kamote tops are very often eaten as local salad. Wash the vegetable well before eating. It can be eaten raw or just immerse in boiling water quickly and drain; mix it with tomatoes and onions with little soy sauce and lemon juice (kalamansi"

Have you heared about camote tops as cure against dengue? Here is the recipe;

Camote tops are boiled in water to extract the juice. The boiling lasts

I love camote tops, and all other veggie tops like kalabasa tops, sayote tops, etc. Sawsaw lang sa ginamos o bagoong. My children's tutor in Tagbilaran used to prepare a delicious salad of calamote tops (with tomato, vinegar, calamansi, etc.)

I learned to eat leafy veggies from my wife and in-laws in Pangasinan. In-ani diay ni ka nutritious?

I posted these humble vegetables to refresh your minds how nutrional they are and also very cheap. They can be cultivated in our small backyards just as what we did during the time of our "katiguwangans".

A Loonanon who used to work at the World Bank taught me to use kamote leaves, not just "ga'ay", to replace gabi leaves when preparing "laing". Lami kaayo. Dili mailhan nga dahon sa kamote diay. You can try this Raqz.

Kods, I steamed my ga'ay but never thought of utilizing the water in steaming the guy. hmmm, interesting!

One time, I attended a Pinoy party here. Ga bitbit ko'g ga'ay salad, nah gi simhutan lang kay di man gud common na pagkaon sa mga parties dire. Maayo unta mo tubo na ning akong kamote gitanom aron naa na pod ko kamote tops straight from my garden.

Bene san, here's how I do my kamote top salad:

Steam bunch of kamote tops. If you prefer not to use steamer, just boil water (or you can cheat for better flavor, use clear chicken broth

), season with salt and pepper and dump bunch of kamote tops. Put the lid on and let steam just enough to wilt the leaves.

Meanwhile, mix half and half mixture of vinegar and lemon/kalamansi juice (or you can use all vinegar or all lemon/kalamansi juice, whichever you prefer), finely diced tomatoes, ginger and scallions, soy sauce or salt and pepper to taste. Mix the wilted kamote tops. Serve warm. To kick it up a notch, you can drizzle olive oil and or sesame oil. Yum!

akong recipe lang kaayo.
mga lamas:
sibuyas bombay, luy-a, kamatis ug sibuyas dahonan. sliced into small sizes and mixed in a bowl.
pour in enough quantity of vinegar then add seasoning, salt and a little drops of MSG. add the camote tops then mix well. and presto, pwede na kan-on with newly cook rice or with kinilaw nga fish.

dili na nako i-steam or lagaon ang camote tops. mag-init ra ko ug tubig then pabukalon for 3-5 mins. after ana, ako rang i-dip ang mga camote tops.
