Sa ancient history (wala ni gi tudlo sa atong curriculum) sakop ta sa Sri Vijayan kingdom which extends to sumatra, borneo and celebes. Vijayans are people who migrated from Ceylon which is Srilanka and established a Kingdom in the Malays that ruled the spice trade as early as 9th - 12th century. Some groups split like the Mujapahit empire. Their religion is mainly Hindus and animist.
When the Sri Vijayan Empire collapsed during the 14th Century, the last ruler surrendered to the Arabs and converted to Islam. It was also the Arabs who started the slave trade with Dutch as their allies.
When Ferdinand Magellan discovered the Philippines, the Sri Vijayan Empire were already disintigrated. There were frequent wars and skirmishes due to Moro/Dutch marauders who were looking for slaves to trade in the famous Malaca Straight of Sumatra. Due to this, it was said that some people of Panglao migrated to Dapitan.
Even I have not fully understood our ancient history, but this is what I've read from other countries historians such as Britain and Holland. This is not offered in our curriculum nor found in Philippine books. Somehow, Spain have twisted the truth for thier favor and erased some of our past.
