My housekeeper is suffering from eye cataract, I would like to have her cured. The situation is like this; IÂ´m here in Europe and she is in Booy, talawan jad mag pangutana. Mahadlok ko basin mabuta ang iyang pikas nga mata. Palihog taga-i ko ug infos like names and possible cost for the eye operation. Salamat daan ninyo.

Sayang wala kaabot sa Medical Mission sa mga doktors gikan sa Amerika bag-o lang (with Dr. Ed Gamboa of San Diego, and company), libre ra ba pod unta. Kung nakatuod siya, ipaadto si Mrs. Francisca Baluyot didto sa Philippine National Red Cross Office (duol sa PNB) ug siya pod ang coordinator sa Gift of Life Foundatiion... papangayoag pakitabang. I'm not sure basin pwede pa modawat ug "palista" because from time to time adunay mga Free Medical Missions sa ato. Ako papa didto niya duol and she was more than willing to help. And presyo: libre!!!

I know of a good Internal Medicine Specialist at Tagbilaran Community Hospital, Dr. Omo. He is the one that supervises the management of my lolo's health (cardiovascular, cerebrovascular and gastrointestinal management).

I also highly recommend a Dr. Opo, M.D, a General Surgeon at Ramiro Hospital.

Lee and Father Lungay, IÂ´m so happy for your prompt reply. Lee you know her, she was with me when we met. I brought her to Dr Malalis for a new pair of eye glasses. The oculist told me that an eye is not okay because of cataract. I could have brought her to some doctor, giabot siya ug kaikog kay dako na kono ko ug gasto, kon mabota ang usa ka mata ang pikas makakita pa. I was so short of time trying to convince her. Karon kay mo-uli naman pod ko, bentaha na nga aduna nay infos.
She is more than a sister to me.

Hehehe, kini si Dr. Opo, general surgeon ni sija sa Ramiro Community. Very good surgeon.

Kini si Dr. Omo, internal medicine specialist ni sija sa Tagbilaran Community. He was the one that my Uncle, Dr. R. Lucino, attended during his specialization training.

I entrust my lolo's health and management to Dr. Omo. He is a very good doctor.

Manay Tess,

Kining cataract, it can be due to old age (senile plaque) and or diabetes induced. If your family caretaker has diabetic cataracts, then she would require a lens implantation.

If it is indeed diabetes-induced, then she would have to make sure of the following:

1. control her diabetes

2. schedule an appointment for an ophthalmology/ surgical consultation

Try the following hospitals:

1. Chong Hua (Cebu)
2. Cebu Doctors
3. Tagbilaran Community
4. Ramiro Community
5. Gallares

For a cataract surgical repair, expect around 30,000-40,000 pesos.
This is a conservative estimate.

Dr. Omo is a good doctor. When I went to visit my cousin who was being treated for bacterial gastritis , I was angry at how the attending doctor was giving my cousin, who is only 14 years old, a large dose of ofloxacin. Ofloxacin is contraindicated in young kids/ growing individuals because it can cause rhabomyolisis and tendonitis in adolescents. Dr. Omo came in and listened to my explanation and at my request, approved my objection to the attending.

He (Omo) then prescribed an antibiotic that did not have the side effects as that seen in ofloxacin. He is very reliable to ask questions to and dependable in cases of medical emergency.

Fr. Roel, buotan bitaw ni si Doc Omo. He said to me, "you are aggressive as your uncle!" hahaha. Very good doctor. May I ask, who is your doctor in Slidell?

Consing is very special to me. During my struggling years in Germany (alcoholic husband and bank indebtedness), money was so tight. When my parents got sick, she took care both of them without pay, kapin sab sa tuig. Manglaba, mangluto etc. Karon siya ug iyang bana ang nagbantay sa balay binulan ang sweldo , mao lagi nga kon masakit akong ipatambal kay ang kwartang amot sa Phil Medical care dili man ibayad kay usik kono sa kwarta, problema ning layo kay taman raman sa email.
Kon moabot ko pohon, kahibalo nako, menos ang usik sa oras, kay 3 weeks lang ang akong bakasyon.

Its good that you are direct in your inquiry, Manay Tess. It is important to treat her cataract-eye. My uncle who entrusted in me to get his medical drugs to treat his growing cataract and intraocular pressure (he was taking pilocarpine and some sort of philippine-brand for acetozolamide). When I went to Chong Hua Hospital in Cebu City, i realized from his charts that he had diabetes. The introcular pressure medx were only delaying the inevetible. So i consulted my uncle to get cataract surgery. He did, in the following weeks. He told me that his vision has been substantially increased. Before, his left eye could not see, only depending on the right. Now, he enjoys vision on both eyes.

The cost for the treatment at Chong Hua was around 30,000 pesos. So anywhere around that.

Before moving to the U.K, my uncle , Dr. Renee Lucino, M.D also practiced in Tagbilaran Community, after finishing his residency at Cebu Doctor's Hospital.

It's interesting that everything is so close in Tagbilaran. And everyone knows each other.
