Why Was The Eiffel Tower Built?
The Eiffel Tower was built for a variety of reasons. The main reason for its design and construction was for the World Exhibition (also known as the Paris Exposition of 1889) commemerating the 100 year aniversery of the French Revolution in Europe. The French Revolution was an important event in French history that attempted to eliminate dictatorships and divine right kings and to create a more democratic government. Many of the French officials and people wanted to remember the 100 year aniversary by improving the quality of Paris and France. Many proposed that the building of new and beautiful buildings would be a good way to commerate the 100 year aniversary. All throughout France, many engineers and designers submited designs and ideas for new ways to improve France. Of the many ideas, Gustave Eiffel's design of the Eiffel Tower caugh some of the most attention.
Its grandeur design and unique structure served as an exemplary building idea for the Paris Exposition. Thus, after years of deliberation and design, in 1889 the Eiffel Tower was built and completed.
Another reason the Eiffel Tower was built was for its promising nature of a scientific research. The Eiffel Tower with its great height could be great for experiments in pressure, temperature and radio telography. In fact, the main reason the Eiffel Tower was here today is because of it use as a radio transmission tower. Twenty years after the lease for the Eiffel Tower had expired, many wanted to demolish it for scrap metal. However, scientists and politicians wanted to keep the building for its use as a radio tower.
Finally, another reason the Eiffel Tower was built was to establish a history that exemplified the purpose of the Paris Exposition. The Eiffel Tower during that time would have been the tallest buidling in all of the world. This motivated many leaders in France to pursure this design and to erect the building.
