DOE Commends Roxas Holdings for Augmenting Ethyl Alcohol Supply Against COVID
Press Release: TAGUIG CITY - The Department of Energy (DOE) commends Roxas Holdings, Inc. (RHI) for its continued contribution in the fight against the Corona Virus Disease-2019 (COVID-19). As of 24 April 2020, the RHI Group, composed of bioethanol producers Roxol Bioenergy Corporation (RBC) and San Carlos Bioenergy, Inc. (SCBI), has donated a total of 54,314 liters of ethyl alcohol to various national and provincial government offices, local government units (LGUs), hospitals, schools, churches, private offices, charity groups, and non-government organizations for disinfection purposes.
"We welcome the RHI Group's initiative to help ease the sharp rise in alcohol demand during this time, because proper hygiene and sanitation is extremely crucial in preventing COVID-19 transmission. We are hoping that other bioethanol producers would follow suit and heed our call for them to allocate a portion of their product towards 70% ethyl alcohol production, as part of their Corporate Social Responsibility programs," Energy Secretary Alfonso G. Cusi said.
On 24 March 2020, the DOE conditionally approved the RHI Group's request for RBC and SCBI to produce and sell 70% ethanol in a move to increase market supply of disinfectants, as the country seeks to contain the spread of COVID-19.
To further support the government's COVID-19 measures, the DOE has also written the Ethanol Producers Association of the Philippines to encourage other accredited bioethanol producers, through their respective Corporate Social Responsibility programs, to allocate a portion of their anhydrous bioethanol product for the production of 70% ethyl alcohol to be used by hospitals, health workers, and the general public.
