The majority of Filipinos are Bisaya. The Central Visayas and Mindanao are Bisaya-speakers. The majority of the Philippine population speaks Bisaya or a variant form. Yet the national tongue, 'Pilipino' is nothing but Tagalog. And Tagalog speakers are a minority in the population.

Cebuano-Bisaya should be the national language. And Cebu should be the National Capital.

It makes sense, as it is in the central region.

True Sir Lorenz. I highly agree. Cebuano-Bisaya should be our National Language and Cebu should be the National Capital.

Na annoyed baya ako last semester.

During the graduation of the 2010 batch from basic sciences, my friend, Jasmine, who is Filipina, introduced me and my friend Job to her mother. I did the cordial mano po and offered my greetings. Jasmine's mom, being from Manila, conversed with us in Tagalog. And she talked to my friend Job, who is from Lucena in Luzon. Now of course I can follow Tagalog, but my skill in speaking the language is rather limited (as I grew up speaking English and Bisaya).

So when Jasmine's mom asked where I was from, I told her "Taga Bohol, po." She then said, "Talaga ba? Intindihan mo ba Tagalog o Bisaya?"

I answered her, "Bisaya, po. Dahil hindi ko mashado yung Tagalog po"

She joked, "Oh you're not Filipino if you can't speak Tagalog."

I just smiled at hearing that. I told her in English, "I am Filipino. I'm a Filipino who speaks Bisaya."

She just smiled back.

How pretentious of some individuals to declare one being 'Un-Filipino' simply because we are unable/limited in Tagalog.

In actuality, Bisayans are more Filipino--considering Bisayans constitute the majority of the entire Filipino population.

I was wondering if other Fil-Ams or other Filipinos had similar experiences.

Cebu was established as the Capital of Las Islas Filipinas and remained the capital until the conquest of Luzon by Legazpi's men.

It is amazing that despite Manila becoming the economic and political seat of power in the colonial days, Cebu, remains far more Hispanized than Imperial Manila.

Our Blessed Patron, is afterall named in the Honor of Cebu.

it's unfortunate that she said that to you, enzo. but it just shows the superiority complex of many a tagalog-speaking regions over bisayan-speaking ones. i can speak for myself on this matter because i was in Manila for years.

Dong Bran, its because of Pres. Manuel L. Quezon who is a Tagalog from Quezon Province. Who lobbied for a Pilipino National Languages based fro Tagalog dialect. I don't know why the Congressmen from Visayas and Mindanao did not object from that bill.

If you happen to study Bran in Manila its very annoying experienced where Tagalogs belittle the Visayans like a second class Citizens. All times they make fun of our pronounciation e as i, o as u. And most especially when they generalized that all Visayan are will work as houseboy or housemaid or a driver. They called them Inday. They think that all Indays are housemaids.

When I call my wife Inday she's very pissed off because she think I treat her like a housemaids.

I told her that Inday is the sweetest word you call Lady or Woman in Visayan its a lambing or most dear.

Maayo man Dong Bran, Work is more busier and I'm getting CAD/CAM equipment for much better quality/precision manufacturing. I'm hiring more workers from PI. We just move to a bigger building.

Hello everyone,

Language is always political. It's interesting you say the majority of Pilipinos speak Visayan-Cebuano because in the states I grew up with a predominantly Tagalog-dominated population.

I can't speak on what the national language should or should not be, but as far as pragmatics, it would sound an arduous process to campaign for a Visayan national language and have it replace all official documents and related national culture/legislative happenings.

I wonder what is the language policy in the Philippines related to national documents and forms of business? Do they have to make sure all material is translated to the respective dialects?

Now to illustrate the politics of language, you have an international meeting with investors and top government officials about military contracts, at the end of the day, what is the language used for business? English? Tagalog? Visaya?

if politics and superiority complex is what pushed the nationalizing tagalog/filipino as our language forward, then, before we could step further to make Visaya/Cebuano a national language, we must not forget the Ilonggos. they too have political clout and, without doubt, superior feeling over bisaya/cebuanons/boholanons.

Am glad to know that work is going well for you, Sir. I can't complain much, studies are going well and my 2nd semester is coming to a close. It is alot of work, study, prayer and faith. Am glad that your daughter is doing well, Sir. God willing all of us will do well.

Yes bran there doing Medical and Dental mission from time to time around Metro Manila. She doing her Clinic now. Its good for learning experienced and at the same time doing service to indigent community.

Camille is very active in school activities, She's the captain ball of the volleyball team in Dentistry in UE ( University of the East). She also do some partime Fashion Modeling for some Magazine and Ramp Modeling. Her Godfather Atty Calibo the President of BAMMI ( Bohol Association of Metro Manila, Inc. want to represent for Miss Bohol International but We begged off due to her hectic schedule in her studies. Sa 2010 nalang after she graduated.

Anyway, glad I'm glad she doing well in her school, I support her all the way. Whatever her decision in life. I'm very proud of her.

How honorable of your daughter, Mr. Rald, to partake in that. We have something similar as well, but 3rd year and 2nd years are expected to complete it in their spring semester. I looked at your daughter's pictures, sir, and I must say, how very proud you must be to have such a beautiful and intelligent daughter. Following in her father's footsteps

My studies are fairing well, Mr. Rald, I just took our midterms this past week was happy with the results. My study group and I are just beginning to get used to the work load that is expected of 1st year. We will begin our 1st semester of 2nd year this coming May.

I am a bit nervous, pero, as what they always say, hard work is the best preparation, diba? Is your daughter planning to practice in The Philippines, or is she looking to relocate abroad? I know daghaan raba demand in Dentistry diri sa 'states.

Sir, I would like to probably someday take part in a medical mission to the Phils.

I have no problem with our sariling wika, tagalog, itÂ´s my mother tongue. But here in Germany I always address myself a Bol-anon. I truly feel bisaya through and through. So it pains me to the heart if bisayan are good housemaids and that IÂ´m often called Inday. These are only clichÃ©.
