Letter to the Editor, Philippine Daily Inquirer
CONRAD DE Quiros is a sad man. Last December 28, or just three days after Christmas, he just had to spoil what should be a joyous season for us by spewing vile and venom anew, this time targeting Willie Revillame.
De Quiros’ below-the-belt attacks on Revillame, whom he called a “monster†and an “SOB†should have no place in a respectable paper like the Inquirer.
If De Quiros has so much contempt for Revillame, who has brought so much happiness to many people, let me in turn express my disdain for this columnist who, if I may borrow his own term, is a “plague†not only to the Inquirer, but to the journalistic profession in general.
If De Quiros can take liberties with calling anyone a “monster†and an “SOB,†then I take the same liberties by telling him to go look at himself in the mirror to see the monstrosity staring back at him.
Inquirer readers like me have been saddled long enough by De Quiros’ non sequiturs and his flawed logic, as well as by his nauseating holier-than-thou stance.
Of course, there’s always the option of not reading his columns, but even that would not offer an escape—there will always be his self-righteous mug staring at those leafing through the Inquirer’s opinion pages.
De Quiros is lucky because he has the option of not looking at the mirror, but we, the Inquirer readers, have to bear with his face.
Comparing the shows of Ellen Degeneres and Revillame was dim-witted too, for they cater to different markets, the United States and the Philippines, the rich and the poor. Admittedly, Revillame’s show borders on the melodramatic, but to each his own.
Those who cry their hearts out in Revillame’s show do so because of the genuine concern they feel from the host who, De Quiros must be told, really digs deep into his own pocket to increase many times over the prizes allocated by his advertisers.
Likewise, why make a big issue out of long-suffering Filipinos who, given the chance to tell the world of their pain and sufferings, get things off their chests on Revillame’s show?
But enough already. I’ve written long enough reacting to a man who should just be disregarded for his littleness of mind and spirit.
