Christmas Markets 2008
« on: December 08, 2008, 06:16:10 AM »
For many of us the most romantic season of the year begins in November, when Christmas markets open in many countries. It is the most sensuous time of year, characterized by candle light and the aroma of traditional Christmas bakery, ice-flowers at our windows, mysterious Christmas stories, a clinking frost, and romantic evenings in front of a cosy fireplace. Lebkuchen and Printen gingerbreads, German Stollen, Spekulatius almond biscuits, Zimtsterne cinnamon cookies, Glühwein, and mulled apple cider are seasonal delights, and they are available at Christmas Markets.

Most people visit Christmas markets with family, friends, and colleagues. Single people may even meet that special someone they have been hoping to spend the holidays with. Some of us will be happy to enjoy a glass of mulled Glühwein, review the most precious moments of the past year before our mind's eye, and look forward to a well-deserved respite over the coming holidays. Visiting one or more Christmas markets is a wonderful way to get into the Christmas spirit.

This page offers you a selection of beautiful, traditional, romantic, popular, and unusual Christmas markets throughout Germany, Europe, and the World. Dresden's Striezelmarkt, the oldest German Christmas market, and Nuremberg Christkindlesmarket are always worth a visit, and there are many other fine Christmas markets waiting to be discovered. Our website christmas-markets-germany.de offers you more than 1798 events of Advent, including 1127 highlight with impressive fotos.

The Aachen Market has become famous far beyond the boundaries of the Aachen region. This is due to its pleasant and familiar atmosphere. People come to the Christmas Market in order to meet their families, friends, acquaintances and colleagues. This happens during the lunch break or after work, during the week or at the weekend. The carousel is a must for the children as is the mulled wine for the adults. Potato fritters are eaten at all times of the day. Naturally you will find a large variety of Printen and other Christmas cakes and biscuits, "Domino Stones", gingerbread, "Spekulatius" and marzipan bread. These are distributed all over the world by Aachen bakeries. However in the Aachen Christmas Market they come oven fresh and taste particularly delicious.

The organisers of the Christmas Market are proud to boast approx. 1.5 million visitors every year. Amongst them you can find guests from the Netherlands, Belgium, France and the United Kingdom

Medieval Christmas Market at the Chocolate Museum
9th Cologne Medieval Christmas Market at the Chocolate Museum

www.medieval-christmas-market.com
The Medieval Christmas Market in front of the Chocolate Museum on the banks of the river Rhine has become a highlight on the Cologne Christmas Market scene over the last four years. Hundreds of thousands of visitors from all over Europe and the enormous media response are proving that this market is a special event with its own special atmosphere.

Leaving behind the hectic times we will carry you off into the thrilling world of the picturesque Middle Ages. Medieval craftsmen will be working on their typical products while telling some ancient tales. The air will be full of fine scents: oriental spices, freshly homemade bread, roasted mocca, tasty grilled wild boar and a lot of more exo xotic treats with only the best ingredients. Jugglers, jesters and medieval musicians will create a jolly atmosphere. A daily changing authentic cultural programme with multiple attractions beginning every hour will enchant young and old.

Come and feel the cosy atmosphere - try the very special "lovers drink" (spiced hot red wine), the hot mixture served in old stone jugs or the freshly brewed black SÜNNER-Beer from a traditional cologne Brewery. Don't miss the opportunity to visit the famous Chocolate Museum and the Choco-Shop inside!

ps

Mr Bean is always on a business trip in Cologne during these period. I wonder which merchandise is he selling.

Nice kaayo imong mga picture Manay labi na ang Christmas lights.

Makapangagho man sab ta. Kahibaw na mong tanan nga walay Christmas dire sa mong lugar nga gi trabahoan. Dili gyud nimo ma feel ang Christmas in the air ug wala kay makita dire nga resemblance ug Christmas in the streets.

Except inside our homes with close friends and Satelite TV Channel is our only source of Christmas.

I was not able to celebrate Christmas since 1990.

Malooy mo! Palimos nang Christmas, maski greetings lang. Huhuhu

Mga higala,

I was thinking of something to share with you about typical Christmas in Germany. Most pics are from Google. The cities I have chosen are really attractions during the Christmas seasons. I will try to make some photos myself during daytime so you could see it more closer. I want to share things for other TB members. Thanks for the reply, it gives me an assurance that this topic is appreciated.
Wishing you all a blessed week.

Manay Tess
