Cauayan City police seize illegally transported lumber
CAUAYAN CITY, Isabela, Dec. 24 (PNA) -- Cauayan City police confiscated 4,516 board ft. of sawn lumber at a checkpoint in Carabbatan Chika here Friday.
Newly installed Cauayan City Police chief, Supt. Kevin Bulayungan, said they got a tip that a truck loaded with lumber from San Mariano town is set to pass through the city.
Bulayungan said police officers at the checkpoint were alerted, resulting in the confiscation of the lumber and the arrest of the truck driver and his companions for transporting the products illegally.
Meanwhile, chief of the Community Environment and Natural Resources (CENR) office here, Artemio Gavino Jr., said the illegal transport of forest products violates Executive Order 23, which prohibits the cutting of forest products in natural and residual forest. He said the driver and his companions will be charged with violating Presidential Decree 705 or the anti-illegal logging law.
The CENR officer urged city residents to report to the authorities any illegal logging activity they see to stop the depletion of the city’s remaining forest resources.
The confiscated lumber has been brought to the CENR office here for safekeeping as evidence when charges are filed against the truck driver and his companions. (PNA)
