The Catholic Church has introduced a new way for the faithful to know more about the words of the Lord, through the audio Bible.
Pampanga Auxiliary Bishop Pablo David said they came up with the audio version to encourage those who are not into reading the Bible, which is part of their “Faith comes from Hearing’ campaign.
“We know that not everyone is interested in reading that’s why we also promote this audio Bible,†said the chairman of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines Episcopal Commission for Biblical Apostolate (CBCP-ECBA).
The audio Bible, he said, has mp3 version and one can upload it in his/her cellphone, play it on a regular mp3 player or CD player.
“Just call the PBS and inquire about the printed or audio version of the Bible it’s available there. Although the recording work is still ongoing for the other languages, but I think it’s already available in English, Tagalog, and Cebuano. Pretty soon we’ll make it available in all Filipino languages,†David said.
The project has been organized with the Philippine Bible Society (PBS).
He also said that the audio Bible is also available for download on the internet but it’s not for free.
“Most of the versions available in the audio form are Protestant in form. There are Catholic versions but they are not for free, you have to order it,’ David said.
On the other hand, the prelate is not worried over the result of the survey of the National Book Development Board (NBDB) showing a decline in the number of Filipinos into reading from 92 percent in 2007 to 88 percent in 2012.
“We are not alarmed. All we need to do is to adjust to the new culture because the learning process of the people is changing…I think there’s a new form of literacy. This means we have to take advantage of the new culture of learning and that is through audio visual,†David said.
