Boholanos Hold Bayle Tibuok Kalibotan in Manila
« on: February 28, 2012, 10:16:10 AM »
By: Atty. Julius Gregory B. Delgado, J.D.

The Association of Young Boholanos in Metro Manila, Inc. (AYBM), through its Committee on Boholano Heritage, Culture and the Arts, in cooperation with the University of the Philippines Kadugong Bol-anon, organized a post-Valentine’s Fellowship dubbed as “Bayle Bol-anon Tibuok Kalibutan” last February 18, 2012 at the Bonsai Garden at UP Diliman Campus.

The Board of Trustees and the Executive Committee of the AYBM decided to offer the traditional community dance Bayle as the activity for February since majority of AYBM’s members have not experienced Bayle way back in Bohol. The activity, which was also a fund-raising activity of the organization for its charitable works, also catered those young Boholanos who were regulars in Baylehan way back in Bohol.

The activity opened up with “It’s a Date”, a dating game with single Boholana searchee asking questions to three good-looking Boholanos who were vying for a chance to date the searchee. The Boholana searchee was Zilpah Sagaysay of Tubigon, a graduate of the Philippine Science High School and finished BA Political Science in Far Eastern University magna cum laude. She currently works in the corporate world of the Philippine National Bank while taking-up law at the same time. The good-looking Boholano candidates were Eric Tañedo of Fatima University, IT Analyst Josh Bongato and former seminarian-turned stock broker Jeff Jamonil. The searchee asked the candidates ten (10) questions such as “Would you change your religion for me?” or “Your mother, yourself and I are in a sinking ship, who will you save and why?” In the end, the searchee chose and expressed her desire to know better Mr. Jamonil, a graduate of the Immaculate of Heart of Mary Seminary.

After the dating game, the main event started with DJ Bart (Aldrin Constantino of Tubigon) announcing the mechanics of the Bayle. DJ Bart explained that the dance will be governed by a ticketing system (Blue Ticket – Sayaw sa Tanan; Yellow Ticket – Special Group Dance; and Red Ticket – Special Exclusive Dance). DJ Bart, assisted by Sound Technician Anklin Galoso of Tagbilaran, played hot to warm-up the participants and then followed by a series of sweet mellow music such as songs from Air Supply, Bon Jovi, Bryan Adams, Jose Mari Chan, Journey, J Brothers, James Ingram, Whitney Houston. The first group dance (Yellow Ticket for P100.00) was sponsored by the Guidulmanons led by internationally-acclaimed Boholano visual artist Sam Penaso who danced with the beautiful nurse from Duero, Ms. Isolde Bernil.

After the first part of the Bayle, an intermission number followed. Mr. Don Quizon, an SGV accountant, awed the attendees with his acoustic guitar skills. Mr. Quizon, while playing the guitar, sang together with Ms. Catherine Laurden, an attractive nurse from Calape, the song “Bakit Ngayon Ka Lang”. After the intermission number, the February birthday celebrants were honored. Atty. Nelso Getigan, former President of the AYBM, and Anklin Galoso, who generously took care of the sounds and lights for the event, were presented a birthday cake and a community singing of birthday song followed.

The second part of the Bayle again started with a hot music and DJ Bart later on played series of romantic songs to accommodate special group dance and special exclusive dance requests. Most of the attendees went home smiling as they can now say and brag that once in their lives they have tried Bayle Bol-anon even here in the metropolis. Bayle will always have special place among the rich Boholano traditions. More than expressing romantic fervor, Bayle Bol-anon serves as a reaffirmation of your belongingness to a certain community. Often times, Bayle Bol-anon is being held to raise funds for a community project. Although some pundits notice its state of near oblivion, the AYBM is committed in preserving the said tradition and hence, will conduct a yearly Bayle Bol-anon as highlight for its February fellowship.

John 3:16-18 ESV
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son (Jesus Christ), that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God.
