Register Staff WriterCraig Cousins picked the wrong bank to ask for directions.
The Vallejo man ended up behind bars facing two felony charges.
Cousins’ woes started on May 23, when he cashed a forged check at Bank of America in American Canyon, according to American Canyon Police Sgt. Joel Wilson.
He altered a check for $14 to make it $740, Wilson said. “He cashed it at the bank and left with the money before staff determined the check was altered.â€
The investigation lead detectives to Cousins after a bank employee identified him through a photo line up, Wilson said.
The break in the case came on Tuesday when Cousins went into the same Bank of America and asked for directions to the Umpqua Bank in American Canyon, he said.
