Mga higala kini ako a nga thread gikan sa pikas nga Forum, siya si Alice Calo retired nurse from New York, who hails from Butuan city. She posts great infos about everything, that is really interesting like this;

Many people with cancer have achieved good
results with a  macrobiotic diet. Fresh raw
cabbage and carrot juice have been proven
to have an excellent result used by Dr. Hans
Nieper, a German Physician and Cancer Spe-
cialist.
Various types of mushrooms can be a good
source of vitamin D, B-1 ( thiamine), B-2 ( ri-
boflavin), B-3 (niacin), minerals and amino
acids. They have the ability to enhance the
immune system T-cells that seek and, destroy
cancer cells. Shitake, zhu-ling, enoki, reishi,
and maitake mushrooms have been reported
to have anti-cancer properties.
Exceptionally low cholesterol have been asso-
ciated with an increased risk of dying from can-
cer, possibly because people with lower cho-
lesterol tend to consume more polyunsaturated
fats, which may increase cancer risk.
Genistein and diadzein, these two isoflavonoids
found in soy act as antioxidants and may protect
against most forms of cancer, especially prostate
cancer, breast cancer, leukemia and bladder can-
cer. Mega Soy Formula from Prolongevity is a
good supplement that contains ssubstantial amount
of genstein and other isoflavones that fight cancer.
D-glucaric acid, a phytochemical found in broccoli,
brussel sprouts, and cauliflower, has shown evidence
in severral clinical studies of reducing the incidence
of the breast, lung, liver, and skin. It is also available
in supplement form with calcium (calcium d-glucarate) .
Calcium may prevent precancerous cells from beco-
ming cancerous.
Early findings suggest that daily exposure  to a limited
amount of sunlight ( a good source of vitamin D) may
reduce the risk of breast, colon, and prostate cancers.
Nutritional supplements and dietary habits offer great
support to cancer patients who are receiving chemo-
therapy/radiation, or who are on remission.
Most chemotherapy medications destroy normal cells
in the process, causing side effects including hair loss,
extreme nausea, vomiting, fatigue,, weakness, sterility,
and damage to the kidneys and heart. Certain nutrients
may help the body avoid some of the damage done by
this treatment, among them vitamin B-6 (pyridoxine) ,
coenzyme Q-10, glutathione, and vitamin C.
Spices such as cardamon, cayenne pepper, ginger,
rosemary, sage, thyme, and turmeric have anti-cancer
properties.

Heart attacks are directly related to a number of
other conditions, such as arteriosclerosis, circu-
latory problems, hypertension ( high blood pressure),
high cholesterol, and cardiovascular disorders
(including aneurysm, angina pectoris, and arrythymias).
It is highly recommended that at least one person in
every household receive thorough training in CPR if one
of the members of the family had previous heart attack.
If you have suffered a heart attack, or if you are consi-
dered at risk for a heart attack, modify your diet. Impor-
tant dietary meassures include:
*Make sure your diet is high in fiber. Not all types of
fiber decrease the risk of heart attack, however. The
most beneficial fiber appears to come from whole-
grain breakfast cereals.
*Eat lots of food that are rich in Vitamin B-6, and B-12
and folic acid, which are needed to keep homocysteine
levels in check. Vitamins B-6 and B-12 come naturally
from green leafy vegetables and fruits. Folic acid can
be found in some breakfast cereals, asparagus, spi-
nach, chickpeas, and beans.
* Include almonds, brewer's yeast, grains,sesame
seeds ( binangkal once in a while) in your diet.
*Enjoy onions frequently- especially red onions -
they contain valuable antioxidants. Chop them and
allow them to stand for ten minutes before cooking
for optimal benefit.
*Add kelp and sea vegetables ( latu, gosoo) to
your diet for necessary minerals. Drink fresh vege-
table juices ( carrot, cabbage and celery).
*Do not eat red meat, salt, sugars, or white flours.
A diet high in red meat can elevate homocysteine
levels. Eat soy-based protein foods ( like tofu).Soy
protein can effectively lower high LDL (bad ) choles-
terol levels.
*Eliminate fried foods, coffee, black tea ( except
green tea), colas, and other stimulant from the diet.
*Refrain from excessive alcohol use, as it has an
adverse effect on the heart. Drinking red wine in
moderation may actually be heart-healthy.
*Sip barley water throughout the day for its healing
and fortifying properties
*Fast three days a month to cleanse and detoxify
the body.
*To relieve stress and promote relaxation, add a
few drops of lavender, sandalwood or ylang ylang
essential oil to a bath (Just add a few drops of
this in your tumbler or taboo with water and pour
in your body), or simply place a few drops on a
tissue and inhale the aroma from time to time
throughout the day.
*Do not smoke. Avoid secondhand smoke.
Studies have shown that those who are taking
supplement of coenzyme Q-10 following a heart
attack are less likely than those who did not to
have a second heart attack within five years.
Coenzyme Q-10 improves heart muscle oxy-
genation.
*Cayenne ( capsicum), ginger root, and gingko
biloba strengthen the heart and are helpful for
chest pain,
*Green tea has superb antioxidant properties.
Drinking 10-20 cups a day can provide protec-
tion against heart disease and many other ill-
nesses.
*Turmeric contains curcumin, anti-inflammatory
that also lowers blood cholesterol.
*Alpha-lipoic Acid- is super antioxidant that
can prevent inflammatory reactions in the body
and slow the onset of illnesses such as Alzhie-
mer's disease, heart disease and arthritis. It
can also help regulate blood sugar and the
beauty of it --lines, wrinkles,, under-eye puffi-
ness, acne scars, and enlarged pores can
disappear. This universal antioxidant is extra-
ordinarily powerful. It is 400 times more stronger
than vitamin C and E and raises the levels of
these two vitamins in the body. If this is applied
topically incorporated in facial creams, it helps
prevent premature aging and skin damage.
HOMOCYSTEINE - is an amino acids that has
a toxic effect on cells lining the arteries and
makes the blood more prone to blood clotting
and promotes bad cholesterol (LDL). Increase
levels of homocysteine  may increase the risk
of cardiovascular disease which could lead to
heart attack.

Beauty tips;
Women have thinner skin than men because
testosterone - the dominant male hormone-
caused male skin to be thicker.  In addition,
women's oil glands secrete slightly less than
men's; therefore, women are more likely to
experience dry skin.
Dry skin tends to be dull-looking, even scaly
and flaky, and readily develops wrinkles and
fine lines. Sometimes it might be primarily a
genetic condition but it may be caused or
aggravated by a poor diet and by environmental
factors such as exposure to sun, wind, cold,
chemicals or cosmetics, or excessive bathing
with harsh soaps, nutritional deficiencies of
vitamin A and B vitamins. Most people's  skin
tends to become thinner and drier as they get
older.
Here's the do's and don'ts  rules for dry skin.
Don't wash your face with harsh soaps ever.
Don't use grainy cleansing products or buffing
pads. Don't forget to apply an SPF 15 sunscreen
to your face, neck, and chest everyday.
Dry skin needs a gentle cleanser. There are
plenty to try: There are superatted soaps-
often called beauty bars - that contain emollients
such as olive oil or lanolin, and there are milky
liquid cleanser and tissue off cleansing creams.
In the morning just splash your face with water.
In the evening you can use the superfatted clean-
sing bar. The drier your skin, the more hydrating
ingredients your moisturizer should could contain.
Pick a product formulated with glycerin hyalu-
ronic acid, or dimethicone. These ingredients
slow down moisture loss during the day, pre-
venting further dehydration, Or just slather your
face with olive oil ( of course avoid this treatment
if you're prone to acne). Use olive oil as a before
bed treatment.
Cocoa butter is a good skin cream and is not
expensive, It also helps reduce skin wrinkling.
Keep it in the refrigerator after opening.
Once a week, use a facial mask , use one
teaspoon green clay powder -(available in the
health food store) and one teaspoon raw honey.'
Blend them together and apply the mixture to
your face, avoiding the eye area. Leave it on
for 15 minutes, then rinse well with lukewarm
water. While your skin is still damp, apply,
your liquid moisturizer. The facial mask will
clarify the skin and remove dull, dry surface
skin cells.
A group of acids known as alpha-hydroxy
acids, applied topically. help to stimulate
production of these naturally occurring subs-
tance. Alpha-hydroxy acids, also encourage
formation of new skin cells. These acids occur
naturally in grapes, apples, milk, sugar cane,
citrus fruits, tomatoes and blackberries. Of
the alpha-hydroxy acids, the lactic acids
appears to be the best for improving moistu-
riztion, while glycolic acid is more effective
at sloughing off dead skin cells and promoting
cell renewal.
Milk is packed with lactic acid, the most effec-
tive alpha hydroxies of them all as it could add'
glow to your skin. Lemon juice or calamansi
juice helps boost collagen and elastin as they
contain vitamin C and also helps strengthen
the capillaries that feed the skin.  You can
combine milk with either calamansi juice
or lemon juice and apply to your face and neck
and chest and same procedure with the facial
mask.
Collagen cream- is good for a very dry skin. A
nourishing cream that can restore a healthy
tone to damaged skin.
Elastin- Helps prevent and smooth wrinkles.
Eat a balanced diet that includes vegetables,
fruits, grains, seeds and nuts. Eat quality pro-
tein from vegetables like soybeans, tofu, beans
and lentils. Increase your intake of raw foods.
Eat foods high in sulfur, which helpsto keep
the skin smooth and youthful. Good sources
include garlic, onions, eggs, and asparagus.
Consume plenty of yellow and orange vegetables.
These are high in beta carotene, a precursor of
vitamin A.
Use oil-based foundations and cream or cream-
powder blushers- the oil they contain will help
soften fine lines and wrinkles.

LUPUS

Some researchers believe that faulty genes are
the ultimate culprit behind this disorder, but that
the outside factors can trigger it. Substances
that are common contributing factors include
chemicals, environmental pollutants, food addi-
tives, and some foods
There are two types of lupus: systemic lupus
erythematosus (SLE) and discoid lupus erythe-
matusus ( DLE). I'm going to discusss only the
SLE because it is a systemic disease that
affects many different parts of the body. The
severity can range from mild to life threatening.
The first symptoms of many cases of SLE re-
semble those of arthritis, with swelling and pain
in the fingers and other joints. The disease may
also appear suddenly with acute fever. The cha-
racteristic red rash may appear across the cheeks;
there may also red, scaling lesions elsewhere on
the body. Sores may form in the mouth. Other
symptoms can include abdominal pain and chest
pains, blood in the urine, fatigue, hair loss, loss
of appetite, low grade fever, nausea, poor circula-
tion in the fingers and toes, shortness of breath,
ulcers, vomiting, and weight loss.
Approximately 50% of those with SLE develop
nephritis, inflammation of the kidneys. In serious
cases, the brain, lungs, spleen or the heart may
be affected.SLE can cause anemia and inflamma-
tion of the surface of the membrane of the heart
and lungs. It can also cause excessive bleeding and
increased susceeptibility to  infection. If the central
nervous system is involved, amnesia, deep depres-
sion, seizures,and stroke maybe present.
According to the American Rheumatism Association,
four of the following eight symptoms must occur,
either serially or at the same time, before a diagnosis
can be made: 1.- abnormal cells in the urine, 2.- arthritis
3.- butterfly rash on the cheeks, 4.- low white blood cell
count, low platelet count, or hemolytic anemia
5.- mouth sores ,6.- seizures or psychosis ,7,-sun
sensitivity, 8..- the presence in the blood of a specific
antibody that is found 50 percent of people with lupus.
A kidney biopsy is needed to diagnose lupus related
nephritis.
Here's some recommendations: Eat a diet low in fat,
salt, and animal protiens- this kind of diet keeps the
immune system from being overly reactive and is easy
on the kidneys. Use only canola or olive oil. Consume
sardines often; they are good source of essential fatty
acids. Eat eggs, garlic and onions. These foods con-
tain sulfur, which is needed for repair and rebuilding of
bone, cartilage, and connectiive tissues, and aids in
the absorption of calcium. Avoid nightshade vegetables
(eggplants, peppers, tomatoes, white potatoes). These
foods contain a substance called solanine, which can
contribute to inflammation and pain. Include in the diet
brown rice, fish, green leafy vegetables, nonacidic fresh
fruits, oatmeal, and whole grains.
Try to avoid fluorescent lighting in both the home and
the workplace. Exposure to fluorescent lightings can
aggravate lupus symptoms. If possible remove all
fluorescent and halogen lighting and replace them with
incandescent bulbs.
Avoid strong sunlight and use protection from the sun.
Protect your skin by applying sunscreen product with
an SPF 15 or higher. Go out in the sun only when ne-
cessary. Wear a wide brimmed hat and clothing that
would adequately cover exposed skin.
Avoid large groups of people and those with colds or
other viral infections. Autoimmune diseases such as
lupus render an individual more susceptible to viral
infections.
Avoid using birth control pills. They may cause
lupus to flare up. Use hypoallergenic soaps and
cosmetics. Some deodorant soaps and other toiletry
items may contain ingredient that will increase your
sensitivity to light.
Get plenty of rest and regular exercise that promotes
muscle tone and fitness.

Cocoa powder isn't just for drinking or making
cakes with. It's a very good facial mask for
old, dry skin that has slightly weathered through
the years.
For a facial mask for dry skin, add enough dairy
cream and a little olive oil to about 2 cups or
less of cocoa powder to make a dough that's
easily pliable and not runny or too stiff. It should
be thick enough consistency so that you can
apply it all over your face much as you would
do on any facial mask like mud pack. The addi-
tion of olive oil helps to give a greater elasticity
and prevents it from drying out too soon or be-
coming somewhat cakey.
Now 2 cups plain, dry cocoa powder yield
slightly over 2 tbsp. fat, of which about 10-12%
is linoleic acid. Add to this approximately 3 tbsp.
olive oil, which gives additional 12% or so of li-
noleic acid, and you have a facial mask con-
taining at least of 25% linoleic acid, not to men-
tion what the dairy cream is apt to provide as
well. Remember my posting about linoleic acid?
With the cream, the total linoleic acid content
can be expected to be near 30% for that matter.
Why all the fuss over linoleic acid? Simply
because it's one of the ingredients to healthier,
more youthful looking and lovelier skin.
Guess what? the main nutrient which gives
baby's skin such a nice, smooth, suubtle,
almost velvety softness, is none other than li-
noleic acid. Why did Cleopatra bath herself
with milk, it's because of linoleic acid. That's
Cleopatra's beauty secrets for her ravishing
beauty.
Remember what I said before in my posting
regarding alpha lipoic acid- ?the best source
among them all is milk because of its high
content of linoleic acid . Alpha lipoic acid
helps lines, wrinkles, under eye-puffiness,
acne scars and enlarged pores disapear.

HEALTH WARNING
Supermarket Shelf Poisons

Anybody that takes Vitamin C (and most people should) avoid the following Soft drinks Sunkist, Fanta, Diet Coke, Sprite, & Pepsi Max.

These drinks contain Sodium Benzoate 211 on the label. A chemical reaction between Vitamin C and Sodium Benzoate creates Benzine a highly Carcinogenic chemical (story by Channel 9).

Benzine has the ability to severely damage the DNA in the Mitochondria to the point that it totally inactivates it, knocks it out altogether. The Mitochondria consumes Oxygen to give you energy, and if you damage it, then the cell starts to malfunction very seriously, often fatally, a whole array of Diseases has been tied to the damage to the DNA, including Parkinson's Disease and quite a lot of Neuro-Degenerative Diseases..

This is a follow-up of all the TV station's story on Mentos and Diet Coke. Don't mix these two either, they cause a chemical reaction (explosion) in the stomach, it's not only Mentos but also any Mint products. Mint Life Savers, Tic Tac's, Cool Mint's, etc, the Mint is not the culprit here but the Aspartame in the Diet Drinks, 951 on the label, also   avoid 950 Acelsultame F (same thing). Aspartame poisoning has been scientifically linked to 92 Symptoms of Disease ... Still going to drink your Diet Drinks???

Most European countries have forbidden the Importing and use in their Country of Aspartame including all makes of Saccharin, example Equal, Nutra-Sweet,  Spoonful & Diet Drinks, including 6,000 consumer Good's and Beverages, sold on the Supermarket shelves .  this ban affect's all use of this product in any type o consumable infringement and will carry penalties that go from 9.000 euros to 90,000 Euros.

Mexico is also considering banning all 6,000 products of Aspartame on its Supermarket shelves. In Mexico Aspartame is known as Rumsfeld's Disease, after George Bush's mate Donald Rumsfeld. The Nutra-Sweet company and Searle are owned by Monsanto who appointed Rumsfeld as their General Manager, so they could use his clout with Parliament to get this Deadly Poison passed by the FDA   and boost their sales of Aspartame.

Avoid all Toothpastes made in China , especially Colgate's they contain Ethylene Glycol..  This is an Anti-Freezing agent, Highly Toxic  and even Fatal -- it destroys the Liver, Kidney, Lung, Blood Cells, Heart and the Nervous System. It is also in some Mouth Washes, Make-up, Aftershave, Baby Powder and Wipes, Shampoo, and Deodorants.

Avoid Smarties; they contain almost every Toxic artificial colour on the market. The worst are 102, 104, and the worst of all 110 Carcinogenic, 124 undesirable, 127 Carcinogenic 128 Extreme Caution, 129,131, and 133 are also carcinogenic. To top it off Smarties are not even made of Chocolate (neither are Tim Tam's). Synthetic Chocolate has non-nutritional food value whatsoever.

Read your labels  -- it may one day save your life.

No one knows exactly why some people develop
heart disease and others do not, but a number
of significant clues and risk factor had been iden-
tfied. One risk factor that has been receiving a
great deal of attention is homocysteine, an amino
acids formed as a result  of the metabolism of
another amino acid, methionine, which is essential
for normal growth and normal metabolism. High
homocysteine in the blood are associated with an
increased risk of cardiovascular disease that
could lead to heart attack or stroke.
There are three basic scenarios that can produce
heart attack. the first, and by far the most common,
is partial or complete blockage of one of the arteries
that supply the heart with oxygen, most often by
a blood clot. Usually the arteries had been narrowed
by years of coronary artery disease in which plaque,
which is composed of cholesterol rich deposits, pro-
teins, calcium and excess smooth muscle cells,
builds up on the arterial walls. The arterial wall thicken,
inhibiting the flow of blood to the heart muscle. The
roughening of arterial walls by deposits of plaque not
only marrows the arteries, but also makes it easier
for blood clots to form along their inner surfaces.
When a clot grows, or detaches from its place of
origin and travels through the blood vessels, it may
block a coronary artery completely, resulting in a
heart attack.
In the second heart attack scenario, an arrythmia
may set in, so that the heart is no longer pumping
enough blood to ensure its own supply.
The third scenario, a weak spot in the blood vessel,
called an aneurysm may rupture, causing internal
bleeding and disrupting normal blood flow.
In general, persons considered to be at higher risk
of heart attack are those with a family of heart
disease, those who smoke, and abuse drugs,
people with diabetes, high blood cholesterol,
or high triglyceride levels or high homocysteine
levels, sedentary people; and those who are'
under stress or who have "type A" personalities.
One third of all heart attacks occur without warning.
A constant sensation of heartburn that persists for
days and from which antacids provide no relief can
be a sign of an impending heart attack.
Most people who have heart attacks experience
the characteristic chest pain. However, not all do.
Some people feels like indigestion, others have'
no noticeable symptoms at all. This phenomenon
is often referred to as a "silent" heart attack.
Elderly people with diabetes are probably more
likely than others to have this type of heart attack.
Vitamin B-6 and B-12 and folate can prevent
homocystein from converting rapidly enough in
the body and they work together to facilitate the
breakdown of homocysteine and thus help prevent
against heart disease.
High levels of homocystiene accumulating in the'
body can damage cell membranes and blood
vessels, and increasing the risk of cardiovascular
disease , particularly atherosclerosis.

Carrots is a powerful antioxidant. It builds healthy
skin and tissues. Good for the heart and reduce
the risk of cancer ( respectively lung). It also help
stop diarrhea, stimulate appetite. It helps build
healthy teeth, improve eye sight and prevent eye
and mucus membrane infection and aid diuresis.
Carrot juice is very important in the treatment of
severe illness, especially cancer. Raw carrots are
high in beta carotene, vitamin B-complex, C, D, E,
K, iron, calcium, phosphorous, sodium, potassium,
magnesium, manganese, sulphur and copper.
Wash them and add them to salads, and soups.
Before juicing, wash and do not peel the carrot. It
is best to ise organic carrots.
Carrot soup is an excellent treatment of infantile
diarrhea, even in newborns, premature infants, and
in all children suffering from acute colitis or diarrhea.
Adults with acutte enterocolitis, diarrhea, and all
colon disorders are helped  by using carrot soup
or fresh juice. Carrot soup also prevents dehydra-
tion from diarrhea by supplying water and the es-
sential minerals that have been lost.
Although carrots do not contain vitamin A, they
do contain beta-carotene which the body can con-
vert to vitamin A. Carotenoids have been linked
to the prevention of certain types of cancer espe-
cially lung cancer. Vitamin A may be taken as
supplement in the form of beta-carotene, retinols,
or a combination of the two.
Dr. J. Michael Gaziana, Cardiologist, Harvard's
Brigham and Women's hospital conducted a 5
year study that revealed a 50% reduction in heart
attack, stroke and cardiovascular deaths for those
who took 50 mgs. beta-carotene supplement
every day. " It provides a compelling reason for
people to include foojs rich in beta-carotene as
part of a balanced diet".
Enjoy carrot cake- you can use ready mix Duncan
Hines and follow instructions- just add fresh grated
carrots and macapuno strings.( in the bottle-found
in Filipino stores ) Just use corn or canola oil and
instead of water use soy milk or half and half or re-
gular milk. You will have your own version of carrot
cake- a very nutritious one.

FAt, is, in fact the most concentrated source
of energy available to the body. Excessive
fat intake is a mjor causative factor in obesity,
high blood pressure, coronary-heart disease,
and colon cancer and other disorders as well.
To understand how fat intake is related to these
problems, it is necessary to understand diffe-
rent types of fats.
FAts are composed of building blocks called-
fatty acids. There are three major categories
of these- saturated, ,polyunsaturated and mo-
nounsaturated.
Saturated fatty acids are found primarily in
animal products including dairy items such as
whole milk, cream, cheese, and fatty tissues
such as beef, veal, lamb, pork, and ham. The
fat marbling you can see in beef and pork are
composed of saturated fats. Some vegetable
products-including coconut oil, palm, kernel
oil and vegetable shortening are also high in
saturates.
The liver uses saturated fats to manufacture
cholesterol. therefore dietary intake of satu-
rated fats can significantly raises the blood
cholesterol levels especially the bad choles-
terol (LDL).
Polyunsaturated fatty acids are found in
greatest  abundance in corn, soybean, saf-
flower and sunflower oils. Certain fish oils
are also high in polyunsaturates. This kind
of fats tend to lower your blood cholesterol
levels. However, large amount of polyunsatu-
rates also has a tendency to reduce HDL-
"your good cholesterol". For this reason like
all fats, polyunsaturated fats are high in calo-
ries. Use must be minimal due to calories.
Monounsaturated fatty acids are found mostly
in vegetables and nut oils such as peanut,
and canola. These fats appear to reduce
blood levels of bad cholesterol (LDL) without
affecting HDL (good cholesterol) in any way,
but just the same, it should be taken in mo-
deration due its calories content.
Actually most foods-including some plant-
derived foods-contains a combination of all
three types of fatty acids, one of the types
usually predominates.
On the other hand, trans fatty acids, may
play a role in blood cholesterol levels. These
substances occur when polyunsaturated oils
are altered through hydrogenation, a process
use to harden liquid vegetable oils into solid
foods like margarine and shortening.
It is then clear if your goal is to lower your
blood cholesterol levels, polyunsaturated and
monounsaturated fats are more desirable than
saturated fats or products with trans-fatty acids.
Just as important, your total calories from fat
should not contribute more than what your body
requires daily.

Stretch marks are wavy stripes appearing
in the abdomen, buttocks, breast, and thighs.
They start out reddish in color and gradually
turn white. They are caused by rapid weight
gain such as typically associated with preg-
nancy and appear when the skin becomes
overstretched and the fibers in the deep layers
tear..Once they appear, they are permanent
but they do become much less noticeable
with time.
Here's the concoction for you to try to pre-
vent stretch marks:
1/2 cup virgin olive oil
1/4 cup of aloe vera gel ( gel found inside the
leaves of aloe vera).
liquid from 6 capsules of vitamin E
Liquid from 4 capsules of vitamin A
1. Mix all the ingredients in a blender
2. Pour the mixture into a jar and store in
    the refrigerator.
Apply the oil externally over the abdomen,
hips, and thighs- the places where stretch
marks commonly appear once a day. If you
do this diligently every day, you may be
able to prevent stretch marks.
You can also apply cocoa butter/or elastin
cream topically as directed on the product
label. These substances are very good for
stretch marks.

Envy

The word envy reminds me of the essay I wrote
when I was still a Freshman in College. I'm not
quite sure of my title  whether it was "The Essence
of Envy" or "The Price of Envy". whatever!!!!!
Envy comes from comparing yourself to others
Unhappiness over what you lack is greatly based
on envy. Every person is different in his personality
and innate abilities. Therefore each person has the
potential to serve the Almighty in a unique way
according to his personal abilities and tests. It is
natural for a person to feel envious of others at
some point in his life.
There's a type of envy that is prevalent among
people who are successful in gaining knowledge
or amassing wealth. They want to be number one,
and do not want anyone else to surpass them in
their area of prominence. Competition can cause
much needless pain and suffering. It can lead'
frequently to many serious illness caused by stress
and even early death.
You can overcome competitiveness by not being
overly concerned about comparing yourself with
others, In the long run, what actual differences
does it make to you what others possess or have
accomplished? It is more productive to keep your
focus on your own potential rather than looking at
others. You will gain twofold. You will gain what
you do have and you will not suffer from what some-
one has.
Even in spiritual matters, competitiveness can
cause much harm. Trying to outdo others in strin-
gencies and extremes in order to be the most per-
fect can cause much anxiety and emotional stress.
Such a person tend to belittle others in order to
elevate himself.
Envy is such a part of many people's personalities
that it is not reasonable to expect them to com-
pletely eradicate this trait. Rather, they would
channel it in a positive direction. Let them envy
those with wisdom so they will try to gain more
wisdom.
When a person envies another person's beauty,
physical strength or wealth, he is manifesting a
lack of acceptance of what the Almighty decreed
he should have. One who recognizes that the
Almighty is just and fair does not envy any other
person.
Envy causes harmful physiological reactions. An
envious person always feels sad and miserable.
His mind  is always fill with worry, suffering, and
misery, while the person, being envied enjoy
himself.
Envy comes from follishness and lack of under-
standing. When you are envious of someone, you
do not gain anything and do not cause a loss to
the person you envy. The only person who loses
out is you.

Vertigo is a sensation of dizziness, faintness,
or lightheadedness that results from an impaired
sense of balance and equilibrium. Dizziness is
not synonym with vertigo. Anyone may occa-
sionally experience a feeling of ligheadedness,
dizziness, unsteadiness, or the sensation of
feeling faint. Dizziness can be caused by many
different things, some of them serious. If you
feel dizzy and find it difficult to speak, swallow
or think clearly, seek medical attention. These
may be the symptom of stroke. Numbness and
tingling or loss of vision accompanied by dizzi-
ness can be sign of a stroke.
Vertigo is not an illness in itself-it is a symptom'
of another condition. Vertigo occurs when the
central nervous system receives conflicting
messages from the inner ear, eyes, muscles,
and skin pressure receptors. This may result
from a variety of causes, including brain tumors,
high or low blood pressure, allergies, diabetes,
head injuries, inadequate or interrupted supply
of oxygen to the brain, anemia, viral infection,
fever, the use of certain drugs, nutritional defi-
ciences, neurological disease, psychological
stress, changes in the atmospheric presssure;
blockage of the ear canal or eustachian tube,
middle ear infections, or excess wax in the
ear. It could also be caused by Meneire's
Disease.  Poor cerebral circulation can also
cause dizziness and the inability to maintain
balance. Poor cerebral circulation may be due
to either narrowing of the blood vessels  that
supply the brain ( arteriosclerosis) , pinched
lood vesselin the neck (cervical osteoarthritis) ,
or a disorder such as diabetes or anemia.
Because of the effects of aging on the body,
older people are more prone to vertigo. As people
age, tiny bits of debris may accumulate in the
inner ears and press against the hair cells, re-
sulting in false signals being sent to the brain.
This can interfere with the sense of balance and
result in vertigo. In addition, with increasing age,
nerve impulses require more time to travel from
the eyes to the brain and spinal cord. This can
cause dizziness and loss of balance upon
sudden movement.
Ginger relieves dizziness and nausea. Gingko
biloba improves circulation and improves brain
function by increasing the supply of oxy-gen
to the brain. Take 120 mgs of gingko biloba
extract daily. Avoid alcohol, caffeine, nicotine
and all fried foods. Limit your sodium intake.
Too much sodium can disrupt the working of the'
inner ear.
To subdue dizziness, sit on a chair with your
feet flat on the floor and stare at a fixed object
for a few minutes. And avoid rapid or  extreme
movement and rapid change in body position.
If vertigo is a recurring problem, consult your
health provider. It may be a sign of an under-
lying problem that requires treatment.

Senility or dementia can be caused by several
diseases affecting brain function. It can also
result from nutritional deficiency (especially de-
feciencies of vitamin B-1 ( thiamine) B-2-
( niacin), B-6 (pyridoxine), and B-12), alcoholism,
Alzheimer's disease, kidney or liver failure, hypo-
thyroidism, multiple sclerosis, multiple strokes,
atherosclerosis, AIDS, or diabetes, to name
a few.
Many people diagnosed as senile actually
suffer from pseudodementia- symptoms that
mimic dementia but that are actually caused
by deafness, brain tumors, thyroid problems,
liver or kidney problems, rthe use of certain
drugs, or other disorders.
Feelings of isolation, loneliness, frustrations,
anger, fatigue, and loss of social life often accom-
pany this condition- and this can be overwhelming.
Evidence suggests that many cases of dementia
maybe prevented by "stroke reduction" measure-
not smoking, controlling high blood pressure,
adhering to proper diet, and taking appropriate
nutritional supplements.
When choosing supplements, avoid heavily coated
or sustained release products. These are difficult
to break down. Instead, choose liquids, powders or
sublingual forms.
Herbs that are helps: Anise-appear to sharpen brain
power; gingko biloba-improves cerebral circulation,
enhances brain function and memory, and destroys
free radicals to protect brain cells; gotu kola and
ginseng also aid with memory function.
The Chinese herb "quian ceng ta" ( Huperzia serrata),
increases memory retention. It is the source of the
compound "huperzine A" . Pure standardized extracts
of this compound have been shown to increase clear-
headedness, language ability, and memory in a sig-
nificant percentage of people with Alzheimer's disease.
It is a potent blocker of acetylcholinesterase, an en-
zyme that regulates the activity of acetylcholine, which
is an important brain chemical involved in maintaining
healthy learning and memory functions.
Vitamins: Vitamin B-6 vital for mental health and for
maintaining electrolyte balance in the body. Vitamin
B complex injection- All B vitamins are necessary for
brain and nerve health. Older adults often have defe-
ciencies because the ability to absorb the B-vitamins
declines with age. Injections under Dr's supervision
are best. Vitamin B-3 (niacin) -improves cerebral
circulation and lowers cholesterol levels but caution-
do  not take niacin if you have a liver disorder, gout,
or high blood pressure.
Vitamin C with bioflovonoids reduces blood clotting
tendency,improving cerebral circulation. Vitamin E-
improves cerebral circulation and boosts immunity,
which decline with age.
Essential fatty acids such as flaxseed oil, primrose
oil - they promote brain function and nerve function
as well as a healthy immune system
Eat whole grain cereals and bread, raw nuts and
low-fat yogurt and soured products. Eat swiss
cheese, brown rice and plenty of fiber daily.
Drink plenty of liquids, even if you are not thirsty- as
we grow older, our "thirst system" does not work well.
Move the bowels daily- oat bran, rice bran, and a high
fiber diet are important.
Keep active. Exercising, walking, engaging in mental
activity and doing things you enjoy, like pursuing a
hobby are important. Seek out companionship and
new experiences. Some people withdraw and keep
to themselves as they get older because it seems
easier, safer, but this can lead to loneliness and
depression. In this darn age invest in buying and
learning how to use computer and voila you have
lots of friends to chat with. CHEERS.

The prostate is a chestnut-sized gland below
the bladder that produce fertility-promoting
substances. It is susceptible to enlargement
and cancer- especially in the middle age.
Prostate cancer kills more men than any other
form of cancer except cancer of the lungs.
Many men have prostate cancers without
being aware of it. The risk of prostate cancer
increases with age
Scientists aren't exactly sure what causes
prostate cancer. Recent studies in Japan,
suggests, however, that sexual activity plays
a role. At higher risk: Men who become sexually
active when very young, have many sexual
partners, marry late, or stop their sexual activity
early. Levels of the male hormone testosterone,
which stimulates the prostate and affects sexual
drive, could be a factor. Testosterone seems to
stimulate tumor growth
Prostate cancer doesn't always cause obvious
symptoms. In about 25% of men with advanced
cases, however, there is pain in the pelvis, spine,
the ribs, and the long bones.
Most cases of prostate cancer are detected
during routine rectal exam and  blood test of PSA.
A digital exam can locate tumors half a centimeter
in diameter or larger while in comparison, a new
technology, transrectal ultrasonography, uses high
frequency sound waves to detect tumors that are
too small to be detected
with a digital exam.
The second leading prostate problem is enlarge-
ment, also known as benign prostate hypertrophy
(BPH). This occurs when the glands swells and
begin to press upon the urethra. Half the men past
the age of 40 have at least microscopic evidence
of BPH.
At one time, treating prostate cancer by radical
surgery was likely to cause impotence. But today,
many treatments are effective without serious
side effects. Options: surgery, external radiation,
and hormone therapy. Treatments is tailored to
each individual, based on age, health and tumor
size.
Men under 50 years of age experience impotence
because of external factors- drinking, smoking,
certain medications (tranquilizers, heart drugs,
anti-hypertensive, anti-anxiety drugs). Half of all
cases  of impotence among men  over 50 years
old have a physical component- most commonly
poor circulation in the penis. In such cases dietary
precautions might prevent heart attack as well as
improve sex.To help prevent circulatory problems,
men should reduce fried foods, fats, and other
high cholesterol dishes.

Osteoporosis is a progressive lose of bone-is one of the most common and potentially
debilitating problems of menopause and postmenopause. About one in three women have
this condition by age 75, characterized by bones that are highly porous.
This can be prevented through calcium intake and exercise- is key. It's important to get enough
of both during the bone building years (to about age 35)- and afterward.
Calcium target-1,200 mgs per day before menopause, 1,500 mgs. after.Though you should eat
plenty of calcium-rich foods such as milk and broccoli, you would have to drink 4 cups of milk
a day to get 1,200 mgs of calcium and broccoli 16 cups/day.

For this reason, women over 35 should be taking calcium supplements. Best source: calcium car-
bonate or calcium citrate tablets. Dolomite and bone meal are not desirable because they are
poorly absorbed and frequently contain trace of lead and other toxins.
For best absorption calcium should be taken with magnesium and vitamin C, K, and D. Don't over-
dose on vitamin D-too much can be toxic. Best source are vitamin D fortified milk, multiple-vitamin
supplements and sunshine- 20 minutes per day.,Magnesium and potassium are found in all fruits
and vegetables. Vitamin K is found in dark green leafy vegetables including broccoli, collard greens, kale and spinach.

Studies showw that women who don't get out in the sun have a higher incidence of osteoporosis,
And, phosphorous can leach calcium out of the bones, so go easy on red meat, colas, sugar,
coffee and alcohol. Avoid yeast products. Yeast is high in phosphorous, which compete with calcium for absorption by the body.
Estrogen depletion is strongly associated with osteoporosis. So take more soy products and a
supplement of evening primrose oil.
Studies revealed that caffeine is associated with decreased bone minerals in women. Drink green
tea instead.

Weight bearing exercise also helps to build and retain bone. Best: walking, jogging, dancing and
weight training ( alsa lang hong bug-at like lifting grocery bags). Swimming is not a weight bearing
exercise.
If you are in doubt of your calcium tablets, you  can do a home test to determine whether the
supplement you bought will dissolve readily in your body. Place a tablet in a cup of vinegar and stir
it every few minutes. The tablet should be completely dissolved in half an hour. If it isn't, it will
not dissolve in your stomach either and you should then choose another kind of supplement.
Both men and women slowly lose bone as they age. A woman may losee 30 to 50% of her cortical
bone thickness over a lifetime.

Bone disintegration with pain in the hips, lower back or legs and vertical fractures ( usuallaffecting over 50 years old) is common.

Control your anger

When you feel yourself losing control,
take a deep breath. Inhale slowly and
exhale slowly. And remember this when
you get angry with others:

1. An angry response is not very likely
to persuade, but is likely to make the
other person angry. This is why a heated
exchanges changes few minds for the
better.

2. If the other person remains calm
while you get angry, that person's pre-
sence of mind is likely to defeat you.
3. Believe it or not, the person who is
attractin your anger feels justified, just
as you feel when you make others angry.
Try to understand the reason for the per-
son;s behavior. Be analytical and you
won't be angry.

4. Talk about your anger. Directing your-
self to your feelings will help you to calm
down, and will allow the conversation to
move gradually to a more rational tone.

5. Call for a break for a cooling off period
whenever emotions flare. The moment you
feel you're about to lose control, your ra-
tional brain is talking, Listen to it.It's telling
you that you're on the verge of doing or
saying things you'll regret. Remember three
things cannot be recalled: Time passed,
the spent arrow and the spoken word.
We have to be conscious and civil. The
route to improved civility begins with greater
awareness of our shortcomings and our ten-
dencies to manipulate others. We have to
train ourselves to be aware of our true motives,
to be honest with ourselves and others, and
to judge ourselves first.
Try to be as gentle as posssible. Don't make
any unnecessarily painful statments--- yet don't
be so subtle that the point is completely missed.
Be willing to be hurt-- and to risk hurting others
by speaking honestly. If someone is too fragile
to respect your point of view, he/she cannot be
a part of your community.
Speak personally and specifically. Don't talk
about "the system" or some impersonal authority.
Don't generalize. Don't analyze people's motives.
Don't play psychologist.
Don't expect perfection ---- just do your best and
learn from your mistakes.

An analysis of fresh potatoes showed
that they rank as the riches source of
vitamin C out of a number of fresh vege-
tables combined. Researchers concluded
that such vitamin C-rich food offer some
protection against coronary heart disease.
A final study reported that large amount of
potato given in experimental diets signi-
ficantly reduced serum cholesterol levels
in humans. And Dr. Elizabeth Barrett-Connor
of the University of California at San Diego
found that men and women out of a group
of 859 between the ages of 50-79 years
with low potassium diets were 3-5 times
as likely to die after a stroke than those who
had higher potassium diets.
Among foods recommended to cut stroke
significantly was "a small potato with 350mgs.
of potassium". Thus it would appear that po-
tatoes are beneficial for the heart when con-
sumed without fat or butter and either baked
or boiled.
Nutritionist at the Home Economics Dept. of
Douglas College, New Brunswick, New Jersey,
demonstrated the potato can be included in a
reducing diet with good results. A whole half
pound of baked potato contains fewer than
250 calories. The potato itself is 99.9% fat
free.
Common sense tells you that a potato dripping
with butter, sour cream or rich gravy is heavy
in calories and bound to add more inches to
the waistline.

Life is precious, and we need to treasure
it as a rare jewel. Wrinkled, sagging skin
is not the inevitable result of growing older.
It's a disease, and you can fight it. You
can look your best, feel your best, and
enjoy beautiful skin and optimum health
every day of your life, provided you start
right now.
You have to start for a good nutrition for
a great complexion. Since I've posted
for quite sometime how to take care
different  skin types, now, my focus is
on what's new for wrinkle cure in the
market.
Vitamin C Ester- an all star antioxidant.
What do a pinapple, a persimmon, and
a luscious strawberry have in common?
They're all jam-packed with an ingredient
that can take years off your looks - vitamin
C. It's now been established that vitamin C-
in the proper form can restore a smooth
surface and a youthful glow to aging skin.
Vitamin C gooses the immune system. It
strengthens the body's white blood cells,
our chief defense against invasion by bac-
teria and viruses. Research suggests that
people who don't get enough vitamin C are
far more vulnerable to a variety of infections
and illnesses from colds to cancer. It also
give us energy  and  is essential to our
nervous system. Vitamin C also protects
against heart disease cataract formation,
and other diseasses associated with aging.
Alpha Lipoic Acid-nature's most powerful
antioxidant and anti-inflammatory. It helps
other antioxidants such as vitamin C, E, and
glutathione hang on longer, giving skin cells
extra protection. And since alpha lipoic acid
is both fat and water soluble, it can work in
each and every part of skin cells. It even pro-
tects DNA. It also has the sugar-aging con-
nection. Sugar is exceptionally damaging to
our skin because it attaches to the proteins
of collagen, causing collagen to "crosslink".
When collagen cross-links, it becomes stiff
and inflexible, leading to the wrinkling and
stiffness of old skin. Alpha lipoic acid is a
unique antioxidant because it prevent the
attachment of sugar to protein. Once sugar
is attached to protein, these proteins are cross-
linked. That is, these tiny little strands, or strings,
which normally slide over one another are now
attached and they cannot move freely. This
results in sagging and inflexible skin that gives
us the appearance of aging. Alpha lipoic acid
is best for lines and wrinkles, under eye bags
and puffiness, enlarged pores, acne scars
and sallow or dull skin.
DMAE- an instant anti-aging face lift. It is an
antioxidant stabilizer. It prevents breakdown
of the cell plasma membrane and the resulting
production of arachidonic acid and a bunch of
pro-inflammatory mediators. When mixed with
other amino acids and nutrients, it has a dramatic
firming effect on skin. In the right combination,
this compound can actually plump up lips that
are too thin or are showing fine lines and wrinkles.
Alpha Hydroxy and Beta Hydroxy Acids. Alpha
hydroxy is a designation for a group of acids
derived from foods. Glycolic acid, one of the
most popular alpha hydroxy acids, is derived
from sugar cane, and lactic acid is derived from
milk. When applied to our skin, glycolic acid
helps to exfoliate and I've mentioned in my
previous posting that you can use table sugar
because it helps take off the dead cells, giving
us a younger appearance. Milk is packed with
lactic acid, one of the most effective alpha hy-
roxies that can add glow to our skin.
Even if you decide that you are not ready to try
antioxidant based creams or lotions, you can
enjoy the benefits of increased antioxidant pro-
tection for your skin through your diet. The key
is eating nutritious-packed antioxidant-rich foods.
Remember that happiness, peace and love are
not in material things or somewhere outside us
but found within and need to be nurtured.
What you make of your life is up to you.

As men get older, body organs tend
to wear out. One of the most frequent
to break down is the prostate gland,
which often requires surgery to correct.
But now there is a much easier and
safer way to keep the organ functioning
as it should. A homemade syrup can be
taken each day to assure a man past his
prime that his prostate won't fail him later
on his life.
This is how to keep the prostate in great
shape: First, shell and bruise with a hammer
6 tbsp. of 6 ripe seeds of squash. Then put
them into a meat grinder so as to render
finely ground. ( You can go to the super-
market like in Butuan where they ground
dried cocoa beans). Next mixed in equal
parts of blackstrap molasses and dark honey
( Josefina Saqueton Amamio, I think some-
where in Nasipit sells this kind of honey) or
just enough of both to form a nice, thick
syrup. Finally, flavor with a little powdered
cardamon and cinnamon and the juice from
half a lemon. Take 1 tbsp. every morning
before breakfast or at least 3 times a week
for sure. This same syrup is also another
way of expelling tapeworms and roundworms.
It is also said to be a possible cancer preven-
tative according to research findings of Dr.
Hirayama. In his findings, people who fre-
quently consumed pumpkin, squash, carrots,
broccoli and green bell peppers, he consis-
tently found to have lower risks of many kinds
of cancer.
Kalabasa or squash seeds are also valua-
ble for treating edema, gout, kidney stones,
urinary burning and difficult urination. Crushed
a handful of seeds and add to a quart of boiling
water, cover, and simmer on low heat  for about
20 minutes, then permit to steep away from the
heat for an additional half an hour. Strain the
liquid and then drink it like tea each day as
needed until the desire relief is obtained.

For a youthful, smoother complexion,
try using a formula that includes green
papaya concentrate, sunflower seed
oil, and blackstrap molasses. Take one
green papaya, if available in your area,
and cut it up into 2" chunks. Put them
in a food blender and puree until thick
and even. Then add approximately 2
tbsp. of sunflower seed oil and 2-3 tbsp.
of molasses and whip again until smooth.
The consistency should just be thick
enough to adequately spread on the face,
forehead, throat, and neck each night
without being runny and messy. A couple
of tablespoons of whipped cream and 4
egg whites should also be added at the
very last, but only be blended for about
15 seconds and no longer.
This wonderful remedy seems to work
great on acne vul-garis and dried, old
scaly skin. The papain present in the
papaya can actually lightened dark pat-
ches in the skin. It can also helps to lift
blackheads off the skin and a rapid turn-
over of epidermal (surface) skin cells,
which leads to a much younger, baby-
soft type of skin.

According to Research presented at the
American Stroke Association's International
Stroke Conference in San Diego California
earlier this year 2009, that drinking lots of black
or green tea may lower your risk of stroke.
That is especially good news if you have dia-
betes, since people with the condition are
twice as likely to suffer a stroke as those who
don't have diabetes.
High blood sugar levels can increase fatty
deposits in the blood and cause clogging
and hardening of the blood vessels. Experts
say antioxidants and other substances in tea
appear to reverse this process, thereby
warding off strokes.
Tea can also relieve migraines. Black and
green teas both contain caffeine. Since
caffeine constricts the blood vessels in
the head, it's able to calm the pain caused
when they throb and swell.
The caffeine content on both teas may
actually help to cut cholesterol. It helps
reduced atherosclerosis. Besides this,
the tea's polyphenols act in concert with
vitamin C and P that helps strengthen the
blood vessel walls of the heart  more.
And they are great infection fighter. Tea
also removes dental plaque.
Dental  Scientist at Washington University
in St Louis conducted a series of experi-
ments proving that black tea definitely
inhibits the growth of decay-producing
bacteria common to plaque buildup on
teeth.  This is probably due to the high
natural flouride content found in both teas.
A hot black or green tea with lemon and
honey can take care of hoarseness no
matter how bad it gets and home remedy
for cold symptoms.

Diabetes and Lymphona - Researchers say
that people with diabetes have a 19 percent
greater risk of getting non-hodgkins lymphona
than those who don't have diabetes. The lym-
phoma occurs when circulating immune cells
proliferate. Researchers suggests the link
may have to do with how diabetes affects the
immune system Obesity may also be a factor.
Diabetes and Boils- Do recurrent boil have
anything to do with diabetes? Skin abscesses,
also known as boils, are more common in
people with uncontrolled diabetes. They are
usually caused by bacteria typically known as
staphylococcus aureus or streptococcus, but
the abscess can also be caused by other bacteria.
Bacteria flourish in moist, dark, warm areas of the
body. You  can get an abscess or boil in any lo-
cation. We know that high blood glucose levels,
even for short period of time, can delay healing
and increase risk of infection.
A vitamin that's kind to the kidneys-A small study
made by Pakistani that a hefty dose of thiamine
(vitamin B-1) may reduce the risk o kidney diseases
in people with diabetes.
Blood glucose levels that run higher than normal can
cause serious long-term complications and are the
reasons that people with poorly controlled diabetes
can go blind, lose their kidney function, or have foot
or leg amputations. Keeping glucose under control
help
s people with diabetes prevent these debilitating
and sometimes deadly complications.
Figuring out what makes your blood glucose move
up or down is key for figuring out how to get it under
control. In brief, eating, stress, and illness can make
glucose levels rise, while medication and exercise
tend to bring them back down. But there is a certain
amount of trial and error in learning how your body
reacts to every one of these factors- and that's where
proper glucose monitoring can make a huge difference.
Monitoring your blood glucose level can be a key part
of your plan for long-term health

Most people have heard of hepatitis,
but few understand the harm posed
by this potentially deadly collection
of diseases. Here's what you should
know from Hepatitis A to Hepatitis. E.
Hepatitis means inflammation of the
liver, with hepatitis, the liver stops wor-
king well. Viruses cause most hepa-
titis. Viral hepatitis is the most common
causes of liver disease in the world.
At least there's five different viruses
cause hepatitis in people. Hepatitis A
and E are spread through contaminated
food, water, and human waste. Hepatitis
B, C, and D are spread through an in-
fected person's blood or body fluids.
Vaccines protect against Hepatis A and B.
No vaccines are available for hepatitis C,
D and E.
Hepatitis C, and D can cause long lasting
problems, including liver scarring ( cirrhosis)
and cancer.
I won't discuss anymore about the function
of the liver as I have a posting about that as
well as Hepatitis. A and Hepatitis B.
Liver disease afflict all kinds of people of all
ages and stages, but most frequently affected
are those in their productive "prime of life"
years, between the ages of 40 and 60 years.
Hepatitis C is the most critical area of all liver
disease research. Hepatitis C can strike anyone.
Among the super stars that has hepatitis C are
Harry Lagman- legendary TV star, Natalie Cole-
Grammy  winning singer, Naomi Judd-award
winning country music.
While death rates from some forms of liver
disease are decreasing, those for viral hepatitis
and liver cancer are on the rise, both in the U.S.
and worldwide. The hepatitis C virus was dis-
covered just 20 years ago. Today it is clear that
hepatitis C is the most common cause of chronic
liver disease in United States; the most common
of liver scarring (cirrhosis);the most common
reason for liver transplantation, and now, the
most common cause of liver cancer.
Hepatitis C is the most common form of viral he-
patitis. While it can be transmitted through conta-
minated blood transfusion and/or needles, for a
substantial number of patients, the cause is
unknown. It may scar the liver. Hepatitis C infec-
tion is common in about 25% of people who are
HIV-positive. Hepatitis C also infects up to 90%
of HIV-infected injection drug users. And it is
more severe in patients with HIV.
Acute hepatitis is the initial infection, which may
be mild or severe. If the infection lasts for 6 months
or longer, the condition is called chronic hepatitis.
Hepatitis A and E do not cause chronic hepatitis.
Hepatitis E is prevalent in countries with poor sa-
nitation . Hepatitis B, C, D can produce both acute
and chronic  episodes of the illness. Chronic he-
patitis B and C are especially serious.
A recent study concluded that about half of patients
with chronic Hepatitis C recovere after receiving ini-
tial treatments from two drugs: peginterferon and
ribavirin. Alternative way is to take milk thistle extract
supplements Silymarin, the active ingredient in milk
thistle, has been known to lower liver enzymes and
reverse the kind of liver damage common in people
with hepatitis C. Some studies have found that milk
thistle can cure liver cancer in rats.
Be sure to have yourself tested for hepatitis viruses
and get a vaccine for Hepatitis A and B. The vaccine
for Hep. A is thought to be effective for 15-20 years
or more. For Hepatitis B three injections of Hep B
vaccine over a 6 to 12 month period are required
to provide full protection.
Prevention in general: is to wash your hands after
going to the bathroom and before fixing food or
eating. Use latex condoms if you are having sex
other than your wife. Avoid tap water. Don't share
drug needles( like injecting glutathione);don't share
personal items such as toothbrushes, nail clippers,
razor- with an infected person

Oxygenized water can be used for energy
production and tissue oxygenation. In other
words ionized water contains hydroxyl ions
which are oxygen molecules  with an extra
electrons attached to them. Hydroxyl ions
scavenge for the free radicals, which are
unstable oxygen molecules that cause
cellular damage. Oxygenized water can also
serve as an antioxidant to fight off free radicals.
However,why buy those quite expensive
equipment if you can eat a well balanced diet
with moderate exercise- you can achieve the
same thing- to have a healthier body free from
sickness. Not unless you have your blood
tested, there's no way for you to know if
you are too acidic or not.
A very simple way to do self test for acid
and alkaline is buy litmus paper and test
yourself either before eating or at least
one hour after eating. Apply saliva or urine
to the litmus paper. The paper will change
color to indicate if your system is overly
acidic or alkaline. Red litmus paper turns
blue in alkaline medium and blue litmus
paper turns red in an acid medium. If your
tests indicate that your body is too acidic,
avoid animal proteins ( especially beef and
pork) as they lead to acidity. Avoid beans,
cereals, crackers, eggs, flour products,
grains, oily foods, macaroni, and sugar.
Plums, prunes, and cranberry donot oxidize
therefore remain acid to the body. Avoid
these until the situation improves. Since
excess vitamin C may lead to acidosis,
reduce your intake of vitamin C for a few
weeks.
Too much alkaline in the system can cause
alkalosis which can cause either of these
symptoms: sore muscles, cracking joints,
bursitis, drowsiness, protruding eyes, hyper-
tension, hypothermia, seizures, edema, aller-
gies, night cramps, asthma, chronic indi-
gestion, night coughs, vomiting, too rapid
blood clotting, and thick blood, menstrula
problems, hard dry stools, prostitis, and
thickening of the skin, with burning and
itching sensation.
Alkalosis may cause calcium to build up
in the body, as in bone or heel spurs.
Alkalosis is often the result of excessive
intake of alkaline drugs such as sodium
bicarbonate for the treatment of gastritis
or peptic ulcers.
It can also result from excessive vomiting,
high cholesterol, endocrine imbalance, poor
diet, diarrhea, and osteoarthritis.
Our modern lifestyles have gotten us off
the right tract, with fast foods, alcohol abuse,
drug dependencies (meds for high BP,
high cholesterol, diabetes etc.), a polluted
environment, and a high-tech stress.
Because most of us have a profound lack
of knowledge as to what our bodies need to
function properly, we find ourselves, out of
balance and susceptible to all sorts of illness.
The more we take it upon ourselves to learn
about nutrition, the better prepared we will be
to take that active role. Attitude is also an im-
portant factor in the process of health mainte-
nance and healing. We must have a positive
mind in order to bring harmony to the body.
The realization that the body ( lifestyle), spirit
( desire), and mind (belief) must come toge-
ther is the first step to better health.

As we all commonly have known that
garlic has numerous health benefits
and to name a few it boosts our immune
systm, safeguard against cancer, lower
blood pressure, reduces cholesterol
and helps unclog arteries as well as
relieves osteoarthritis pain.
Most interestingly garlic contains nitric
oxide synthetase (NOS), an enzyme
primarily responsible for causing the
penis to become erect. Studies show
that garlic can increase the production
of NOS in men who are low in this enzyme.
Garlic paste and minced garlic in oil are
available in the supermarket where you
can use it as a spread like butter to your
toasted bread, fried or boiled camote or
fried unripe plantain.
If you want the best benefit you can obtain
aged garlic ( Kyolic) in the Health Food
Store and had shown no side effects and
no bad breath. However, if you are getting
anticoagulant medication, you can consult
your health provider if you still need to buy
garlic supplement.
information about garlic re- aphrodisiac
obtained from the blog of a friend of my
astrologer friend.

For us Filipinos rice is always in our
dining table. Rice has some health
benefits. It helps fight and prevent
cancer; stops diarrhea, ( BRAT diet-
banana, rice, apple sauce and tea)
neutralize stomach acid; lowers cho-
lesterol and blood pressure and block
development of kidney stones.
Rice is the one food that provokes
the least allergy. Each has a unique
flavor like jasmine which has a richly
flavored variety.
Brown rice is much richer in nutri-
tional value than white rice and has
a higher fiber content because it
retains the outer hull or bran. Rice
bran is a good preventative of kidney
stones.
Wild rice is rich in protein and lysine
and is a good source of calcium and
potassium.
You can combine your regular white
rice with brown rice, wild rice and
black rice.( tapol). You need to add
sweet rice to soften the roughness
of the brown rice and add more water.
In cooking regular rice in a rice cooker
it is 1:1 ration but if you have brown
rice and black rice you have to add
extra water about half a cup. When
the light is off in your rice cooker you
can drizzle your rice with cold pressed
extra virgin olive oil and add knor chicken
powder and mix with a fork.
Other variety you can add to your rice
is canned black beans or any color
of canned beans just pour out the
water.
The colors, sizes and texture of rice
are interesting in themselves but to
add different vegetables and sauces
and each rice dish would be totally
unique.
You can add onions, bean sprouts,
mushrooms, garlic, finely chopped
left over meats and shellfish.
You can also add frozen mixed vege-
able in your rice. Just rinse it first to
remove ice.
Your culinary collection adding this
into your  rice  recipes will grow
leaps and bounds.

BON APPETIT.

1. THE GIFT OF LISTENING
But you must really LISTEN. No
     interrupting, no daydreaming, no
     planning your response. Just
     listening.
2. THE GIFT OF AFFECTION
     Be generous of appropriate hugs,
kisses, pats on the back and hand-
holds. Let these small actions de-
monstrate the love you have for your
     family and friends.
3. THE GIFT OF LAUGHTER
Share funny stories and clip of funny
cartoons. Your gift will say " I love to
     laugh with you".
4. THE GIFT OF COMPLIMENT
A simple and sincere " you look great
in purple", " you did a super job",
"That was a wonderful meal" can make
     someone's day.
5. THE GIFT OF A FAVOR
Everyday, go out of your way to do
      something kind.
6. THE GIFT OF SOLITUDE
There are time when we want nothing
better than to be left alone. Be sensitive
to those times, and give the gift of soli-
      tude to others.
7.  THE GIFT OF WRITTEN NOTE
It can be simple " Thanks for the help"
note or a full sonnet. A brief, handwritten
note may be remembered for a lifetime
and may even change a life.
8.  THE GIFT OF A CHEERFUL DISPOSITION
The easiest way to feel good is to extend a
kind word to someone, really it's not hard to
say " Hello" or " thank you" or " How sweet
       of you".
