Former Alburquerque Mayor Jose Ugdoracion, Jr. is facing charges for falsification of public documents and perjury.
These new charges filed against the former mayor came after fighting a lengthy but losing legal battle that went all the way to the Supreme Court to keep his seat as mayor of Alburquerque and barely a few months after a controversial swearing in as town kagawad of his hometown.
The two cases were filed by Ugdoracion's erstwhile political nemesis, former mayor Efren Tungol.
The first case docketed as Criminal case no. 1595 for perjury will be up for arraignment at 9 o'clock this morning at the sala of Judge Alejandro T. Canda, presiding judge of MCTC Branch 13.
On second case for Falsification of Public Document, City Prosecutor II Romeo M. Chatto found probable cause to indict Ugdoracion and the corresponding information to be filed with the proper court. The filing of the case was approved by City Prosecutor Adriano P. Montes.
The perjury and falsification of public document cases stemmed from Ugdoracion's inconsistent narration of facts in two public documents filed in connection with his mayoral candidacy in the May 2007 elections.
In the first document filed on Oct. 12, 2006, respondent stated in his Personal Information that his period of residence in Alburquerque is 61 years, while the second document executed March 26, 2007 indicated his period of residence in Alburquerque is 41 years.
Complainant, also a former mayor of Alburquerque alleged that Ugdoracion "was not a resident of the municipality for a period of 61 years nor for 41 years as he became a Permanent Resident of the US on September 26, 2001". He further alleged that "these inconsistent narration of facts made by Jose Ugdoracion, Jr. in the two aforementioned public documents are absolutely false causing damage and prejudice to the electorate of Alburquerque".
Asked to comment on the said charges, former mayor Ugdoracion, presently sitting as kagawad of Alburquerque described the filing of these cases as "personal vendetta" for reasons which he himself could not fathom.
During the same interview with the Chronicle yesterday, Ugdoracion further explained that his only motive to come back to his hometown was to fulfill a "burning desire" to be of service to his constituents.
In the May 2007 elections, Ugdoracion won over three candidates including the son of then incumbent mayor Efren Tungol but was unseated by the Supreme Court due to deficiency in his residency requirements. Dr. Cirilo Jalad, Ugdoracion's vice mayor assumed the office of mayor after the COMELEC failed to decide who would take over the vacated seat of Mayor of Alburquerque.
