FedEx and UPS Packages Contain Explosive Materials

The packages “originated in Yemen,” the President said, one sent with UPS and the other with FedEx, and were directed to “Jewish places of worship” in Chicago. (Obama’s town, incidentally.) One of the clues, according to the Washington Post, was “a suspicious printer cartridge,” and “the package in Britain contained protruding wires and white powder.” John Brennan, the President’s counterterrorism adviser, said that the explosives “were in a form that was designed to try to carry out some type of attack…. The materials that were found and the device that was uncovered was intended to do harm.” In the course of the day, another plane, carrying passengers and headed to J.F.K., was escorted in by fighter jets. That one seems to have been all right. Airport security is being increased for now, and UPS has suspended cargo flights from Yemen.
