Hordes of job seekers trooped to the
SM Mall of Asia SMX Convention Center in Pasay City Saturday to apply for over 100,000 local and overseas jobs offered by around 150 employers in a major job fair held in celebration of Labor Day.
"I came here to look for a job, I'm a fresh graduate," Anne Ramos, 20, from Pasay City, said.
Ramos, a graduate of management, said she wants to work in a hotel, either local or abroad.
She added that given the opportunity, she wants to work in Saudi Arabia because her father works there as a driver and her mother as a nurse.
Department of Labor and Employment Secretary Marianito Roque said Business Process Outsourcing (BPO), construction, hotel and restaurant management are among the top industries looking for additional manpower.
President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo delivered her keynote speech where she stressed how the economy improved, providing employment to Filipinos, during her nine-year term.
She also lauded the Filipino workers for keeping the national economy afloat.
Other SM malls in all regions of the country also held similar job fair on Labor Day.
Rafael Mapalo, director of the Trade Union Congress of the Philippines, urged the youth to use the internet productively, like applying in job sites, so they would not have to spend money scourging for work.
