Reviewing for the MCATs
« on: March 28, 2008, 02:40:26 AM »
For those who are intending to apply to medical schools in the United States, the MCATs (Medical College Assessment Test) will be necessary. Kaplan provides a 3 month program that will guide you through key subjects such as Biological Sciences, Physical Sciences and Verbal Reasoning, of which will be tantamount in scoring a high mark on the MCATs.

For those intending to take the MCATs this year or whenever, I highly recommend taking KAPLANMCAT. I took it last year and am grateful for its help.

The MCAT test prep is priced at $1700.00, however it is effective and worth it.
Stay true to your studies, and you WILL score well on the MCATs. The rest is up to you.  :)

Regards and best of luck,
A fellow colleague,

One thing that I really found effective in reviewing for the MCATs is forming study groups.

As in meet up with a group of 3 or 4 people (no more than 5 or 6 bc it can become too much).
Study groups enhances the review session b/c they will be able to contribute to concepts that you find lacking.

One thing is key tho, don't invite just anybody. Make sure that everyone reviewed beforehand so that everyone contributes.

Its good to review for the MCATs at least a good 4-5 months before the exam. Review for about 6-8 hours a day. Take breaks between reviews and do things such as jogging, relaxing pood. A major key in this is preventing oneself from studying too much.

One needs a balance between reviewing and de-stressing.

Thank you for this info, Bran. I'm sure it would be help to those who are thinking of going to the U.S. for academic pursuits in medicine.

You are most welcome, Mike. When I was reviewing for the MCATs and asking for questions, very rare was it that anyone helped me. I usually was given the cold shoulder or the "find it out yourself" kind of response.

What I know and am sharing here is totally from personal experience and from genuine information from medical students and current medical physicians.

Good luck to those who are pursuing medicine.
Cheers,
