Roman " Yoyoy " Villame was known as the great Boholano novelty singer who was born in Santa Cruz, Calape Bohol in November 18 1932. The manager of old MB liner fleet of passenger where he was employed as driver realized that Yoyoy has a gold mine in his hands and brought the latter to Maynila during the 1970, there Yoyoy recorded Magellan in 1972, his first and biggest hits. after a string oh hits, Yoyoy became a by-word in Cebuano speaking provinces. On May 07 last year Yoyoy went home during the reunion of the Orion clan in Calape. It would turn out to be his last visit to his hometown. Yoyoy Villame died of cardiac arrest at the Las Penas Medical Center on 18 May 2007.

Yoyoy was a genius! If you read between the lines of his so-called novelty songs, you will know how serious he is as a songwriter. In "Alimokoy" he talks about our Boholano heritage as being similar to a tree. He advises "ayaw pagputla kay makaluluoy. Kon imong putlon, mangabali ang sanga, mangalarag ang dahon ... aber, atong sayawon ang sayaw sa mga older, aron ikumparar ta sa sayaw sa mga teenager ...".  His only mistake, though, was, when he was still introduced to showbiz, he reavealed on "Seeing Stars with Joe Quirino" that he was from Cebu. I swear I saw and heard that on TV. Bag-o pa ang TV sa amo niadto. So ang tanang ako ug mga silingan excited kaayo mi kay nahibaw-an man nga naa kuno si Yoyoy sa JQ, only to be dismayed (especially me) by his remarks. Another was when he suggested the title and most of the scenes sa movie nga "Bol-anon Ko, Nyor", which was retitled "El Byahedor" after an angry Boholano filed a suit against Yoyoy and the movie outfit.  Dugay na nakong napasaylo si Yoyoy.  Mipatigbabaw jud ang akong pag idolize niya.  Nag-inusara siya. Walay makatupong sa iyang nahimo in the field of novelty music.  Sa buhi pa to sya, pirmi lang to sila ni Max Surban mag back-to-back concert tour.  Haskang lingawa sa mga tawo. Morag maguba ang venue. Manggahi gud ang among mga ampapangig sa punayg katawa. Yoyoy's music must always stay in every Bol-anon's heart!

Who is Yoyoy Villame?

Yoyoy Villame (November 18, 1932 - May 18, 2007) born Roman Tesorio Villame, was a Filipino singer, composer, lyricist, and comedian. Villame was a native of Calape, Bohol and was the father of singer Hannah Villame. He died of cardiac arrest at the Las Piñas Medical Center in Metro Manila on May 18, 2007.

 Early life:
Before getting his break in the music industry, Villame was at one point a jeepney driver and at another, an army draftee who fought in the government’s anti-insurgency campaign in Central Luzon. He went back to Bohol to become a bus driver, and there he formed a rondalla band with his fellow bus drivers as band mates. The owner of the bus company took notice of Villame’s efforts, setting up a music studio named Kinamay Records just for him. Villame's first recording was in 1972 and entitled Magellan. It was the beginning of a long list of albums and recordings of his politically inspired songs in Sugboanon, Tagalog and English.

 Notable works:
Among his notable works include Butse Kik, a song written from made-up Chinese-sounding words which Villame allegedly came up with by writing down the names of Chinese stores while waiting for a mechanic to fix his broken-down jeepney in Manila's Chinatown. He also wrote Philippine Geography, which lists 77 major islands, provinces, cities, municipalities, and towns in the Philippines from north to south. His long list of hits and his entertaining style of music has earned him the title of "King of Philippine Novelty Songs".

Villame began making movies in the early 1970s, and was noted for his role in the 1974 suspense thriller Biktima. In 2004, Yoyoy played a Visayan troubadour in the critically acclaimed movie, Babae sa Breakwater (Woman of the Breakwater).
