Could this be another milestone in the annals of political history for the province of Bohol?

Barely two weeks after the seat for Speakership in the House of Representatives was voted vacant that made way for the assumption of Speaker Prospero Nograles, Bohol’s second district congressman Roberto “Ondoy” Cajes was mounted in the portrait of the “Reform Committee”.

This development was divulged by a reliable source to the Philippine Daily Inquirer (PDI) in the news item published in yesterday’s issue.

According to PDI’s source, the “Reform Committee” is composed of four members of the administration coalition that shall be tasked to propose changes meant to improve the performance and image of the House as an institution.

What is being perceived as enormous and meticulous task of proposing the reform, according to the source shall be Bohol Cong. Cajes together with three other congressmen namely Cavite Cong. Joseph Emilio Abaya, Palawan Cong. Abraham Mitra and An-Waray party-list cong. Florencio Noel from the ranks of the House minority.

The Cajes camp was surprise of the said report, but observers believe that it was no surprise if Cajes came out among the choice solon considering his sterling tract record and performance having been counted among the dynamic congressmen in the House.

It is noteworthy that during his first term as congressman, Cajes who was a neophyte earned the respect of his colleagues that lead to his seat as Senior Vice Chairman of the Committee on Transportation and Telecommunications--a seat that is rarely given to neophyte solons.

In his second term, Cajes became the Chairman of the Ethics Committee.  During his chairmanship, the committee had caught media mileage as it  delved national issues that shook the country and even affected the economic activity to include the controversial alleged wealth of the first family in a German Bank.

Cajes led the investigation team to Germany to conduct a probe on the allegations against the first family.  His leadership in the committee has paved the way for fair and impartial resolution of the said case.

Today, Cajes is the first Boholano congressman to become member of the House of Representative Electoral Tribunal (HRET).  This tribunal hears and decides election contests and protests.

Without doubt, Cajes inclusion in the “Reform Committee” of the House under the new leadership is another glaring manifestation of the trust and confidence of nation’s top leaders on Cajes reputation and credibility as leader, law-maker and a model citizen of this country.
