Philippine Navy Flag Officer in Command Vice Admiral Rogelio Calunsag will officially end his 34 years in military service this Saturday as he reaches the mandatory military retirement age of 56.

Meanwhile, President Arroyo has appointed yesterday Calunsag's replacement, Rear Admiral Ferdinand Golez.

Calunsag, a native of Loay town, was appointed as chief of the Philippine Navy on December 8, 2006 after his stint as Inspector General of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP).

Calunsag, who grew up and finished his elementary studies in Loay, is a member of the Philippine Military Academy's Class 1974.

Golez, the incoming Navy chief is a graduate of the PMA's 1976 Class. His classmates include General Alexander Yano, the Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), and Lieutenant General Victor Ibrado, commanding general of the Philippine Army.
