The new session hall of Jagna’s 6th Sangguniang Bayan (SB) Legislative Building was named after the late Justice Bernardo Lloren Salas in simple testimonial program Monday.
The testimonial program attended by all Local Government Unit (LGU) officials, department heads and very close relatives, became nostalgic as all speeches reminisced the good deeds of Salas, who was once an associate justice of the Court of Appeals (CA).
Mayor Exuperio Lloren pointed out that the “down-to-earth†character of the late Justice Salas, coupled with his outstanding achievements, prompted the legislative and executive departments of the LGU to unanimously approve the resolution giving him such honor.
“I used to call the late Justice, “Nong Dodongâ€, because of the time-honored affiliation with him and his family. He had been instrumental in my personal and political career. He was not only a good man, an outstanding Jagnaanon, but also a person close to everyone’s hearts. Dali siya mahinumduman kay dali man siya mahugoy-hugoy ni bisan kinsa (He can easily be remembered because he was very approachable),†Mayor Lloren recalled.
Justice Lloren’s widow, Lourdes Caseñas-Salas, in behalf of her family, personally expressed gratitude to the LGU officials for the time and honor they gave him.
“Indeed my husband and our dear friend, Dodong, has never truly left us because I can feel that he is alive in your hearts right now. This edifice named after him will likewise reminds us of his great deeds for Jagna and for the people,†she said.
Highlighting the simple ceremony was the conferment of plaque that contained SB Resolution 4-02-2008 to widow of the Justice Salas by Mayor Lloren and Vice Mayor Teofisto Pagar Sr.
The resolution, sponsored by Councilor Bonifacio Virtudes Sr., outlines the rationale of the occasion.
The late Justice Salas, who hails from barangay Poblacion, received the “Court of Appeals Achievement Awardâ€- -the highest given to retiring CA justices for integrity, competence and efficiency and for zero-backlog achievement.
He was also given the posthumous Dungog-Kaliwat Awardee during the 375th Founding Anniversary of Jagna in 2006.
He was the second Boholano to be appointed Justice of the Court of Appeals and served from 1994 until his retirement in 2000. He died in 2006.
