In her commitment to contribute in the improvement of the judiciary, Marlo Apalisok Magdoza-Malagar, a Boholana who is presently a Metropolitan Trial Court Judge in the City of Manila Branch 5, obtained her Master of Laws from the University College London (UCL) under the Shell Chevening Scholarship grant.
She was granted a one-year study leave by the Supreme Court of the Philippines. Her desertation is titled “Mandatory Court Annex Mediation in the Philippines.â€
Aside from the lessons she learned, she experienced firsthand the court sessions in several English courts. At one instance, Judge Thomas Teague allowed her sit side by side with him at the court rostrum to observe an actual trial, as an official visitor of the court.
She obtained from the Ateneo University in Manila her Juris Doctor in 1997 and passed the bar on the following year. She worked for five years for Supreme Court Justice Jose Vitug, then with Justice Artemio Panganiban, before being appointed as MeTC Judge of Manila. She got her pre-law diploma at the University of the Philippines, Cebu.
Also, her youngest sister Ma. Margarita “Maita†A. Magdoza II, also finished her Degree in Master in Science Major in Clinical Psychology at the De La Salle University, Manila. Her thesis titled “Predictors of Family Adaptation Stressors, Resources, Coping Strategies and Perceptions of Parents of Children with Autism.†was completed and approved this September, 2007.
