US Special Visa
« on: July 17, 2010, 08:44:55 PM »
The United States has granted all 10,000 special visas for victims of crime or human trafficking it has authorized for fiscal 2010, the US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) said Thursday.

Created in the Victims of Trafficking and Violence Protection Act of 2008, the non-immigrant visa, also called U visa, is intended to help crime investigations by offering protection to victims inside or outside the United States who want to cooperate.

The USCIS "has approved 10,000 petitions for U non-immigrant status in fiscal year 2010," the service said in a statement.

Since fiscal year 2010 ends September 30, no additional U visas will be issued until the start of the next fiscal year, USCIS added. - pdi
