correction. tilapia can thrive in both freshwater, as well as salt water environment. they are even known to thrive in brackish environment. there are rivers in valencia (panangatan river) that ultimately drains to the sea. lolo would fish in the sea as well as go fishing in the river sa una.
i stand corrected (along with my naughty finger).
now i know that there is more than one species of tilapia. thanks. i now know too that, through you, bisayas (and bol-anons for that matter) are beginning to take to tilapia, if that indeed be the case. this fish is more popular with those from luzon and us bisayas had to develop a taste for it. that's why i found it exotic that it can be had that easily along with other species of fish in valencia in the past, according to your story.
during a training on livelihood self-help in the old days, one of the participants told us (the training team) this: "ma'am, ang tilapia sa amin ay hindi kinakain; hinihipo lang."
trust me to laugh out loud at that statement. the rest of the team who were tagalogs wondered what it was i was laughing about. if you yourself are wondering why, i believe hubag, bugsay and fr chic are good references.
by the way, no salute to your bad manners, dear corrector. to start a post with the word "correction" (more than once) is arrogant and gross. what are you, a typewriter whiteout?
