Improvement of Tagbilaran Airport
« on: August 27, 2007, 04:35:53 PM »
Bohol Sunday Post | Press Release

Tagbilaran City Airport Manager Edgar Solis recently announced the plan to spruce up the airport's facilities with a baggage carousel at the arrival area which is up for installation soon, to improve efficiency.

In fact, repair works are on-going at the arrival area of the airport to prepare for expansion.

On this, Solis solicits the patience of some passengers on the temporary inconvenience.

As the chair of the House Committee on Tourism, first district Representative Edgar Chatto has helped facilitate the implementation of the project.

For this, Solis expressed gratitude to Chatto for having prioritized the development of the said airport which caters to the majority of Bohol tourists and visitors.

In the past, the airport management could only cater to once-a-day Tagbilaran-Manila-Tagbilaran flights for each of Philippine Airlines and the Cebu Pacific.

Now, it can extend up to two flights per airline or four flights daily or a total of eight flights in all.

Tagbilaran Airport .. updates by passing through several times during my travel in Bohol.

As of July 2007, there are no indication of ongoing construction, certainly there are no sign of "spruce up the airport's facilities with a baggage carousel at the arrival area" as said by Edgar Solis, Manager of Tagbilaran Airport.

The only sign of any possible construction is a pile of dirt in front of the airport, near the entrance.

i had a funny experience in Tagbilaran airport when i arrive from Bangkok. being a first timer in this domestic airport, i was looking for my trolley and i cant find that rotating stuff for your cargo. i never expect to be grabbing your belongings under the plane with the rest of the passengers. everyone were pushing here and there and you wont even know if they were really the owners of the bags. it was a horrible experience. some foreigners were shocked what's happening. well, i had to explain and look out for them while they took the rest of their belongings, they were just so vulnerable.

True. There is no trolley in Tagbilaran airport.

True, It is chaotic at the luggage pickup.

True. There is no "rotating stuff for your cargo..," said, it will come, maybe in planning stage siguro.

True. The person who's watching your bags as it passes through the xray machine does not pay enough attention to the monitor.

True. The right person with a big smile can pass the security guard even if you have no business inside the airport building.

True. For flight from Manila to Tagbilaran, Fiesta (Economy) Class on Philippines Airlines allows 20 kilograms weight limit per person within Philippine travel. However, if you are traveling with groups, let's say your friend have only 15 kilograms, you can inherit the other 5 kilograms your friend is lacking of.  Make sure you are checking in together as a group.

True. Anxious relatives must wait outside a make shift waiting shed that is made out of tarp roofing and plastic lawn chairs. No aircondition unit, and no airfans, none!  It gets hot outside especially if you have to wait longer than expected.

True. Watch out for luggage handlers outside the airport, they are aggressive, grab your bags and go type of laborers.  This is really difficult when you are not use to this job descriptions.

True. Cebu Pacific and Philippines Airlines offices are located on the second floor.

If you come from abroad and have no business in Manila, I suggest not to have a stop-over in Manila. Instead, plan your stop-over vide Hong-kong and there are 6 daily flights from Hong-kong to Cebu.

From Cebu you take Supercat or Kokaliong to Tagbilaran. This way, you can carry as much luggage as you like without paying extra money. Because from Hong-kong to Cebu, Cathay Pacific allows 45 Kilograms per person and if you buy something in Hong-kong duty free, that won't be counted and that is free even if you buy heavy things such as TV. I've tried it many times.

I am very anxious what really new in our Airport. Since, it was renewed  never been landed there.   I've been travelling from Malaysia and Singapore from the last flights directly to Cebu Int'l. airport and continued  per amphibian boat to Tagbilaran.  This coming Dec. will have one week stop over in Manila and it is the first time to land in our new airport.  Well,  what Mari had experience about the luggage distribution  system, i hope it  is getting better as of these days.

Don't expect any dramatic changes in Tagbilaran Airport. As of August 2007, it is the same issue with me while I was there so by December of this year, well, likely it will be the same as is until there is an active planning in place. ACTIVE PLANNING in place!

Note: During the month of July and August 2007 I visited the place 8 several times during my stay in Bohol.

Do you remember this story?  There is no such things as "on-going"  construction work at the arrival area when I was there end of August 2007.  It would be nice if Mr. Solis held his "expressed gratitude" a little longer before giving Chatto a big kudos for prioritizing the airport development because there is none, zero, zelt, nada, wala gyod!

My Mom is leaving today from Bohol to the U.S. .. I will ask her if there is such improvement/construction going on inside or outside Tagbilaran Airport and I will post it here for updates.

A kuyawa gud nang Amphibian Boat, so puede kang ihatod sa inyong natad like door to door service. Puede siguro kung naay hoover boat nga puede mo agi ug kalsada.

Siguro Bams supercat imong gipasabot.

Bams, I remembered Sweet Heart, Sweet Faith, Sweet Hope ang ilang kontra M/V Cebu City, bangga poste. Going to Manila people used to go via Dona Virginia.

I was grade two at that time, but my memories are vivid. It was that time nga daghang hubog sa pantalan ug puede sila matulog sa kalsada. Tanang barko mo larga alas dose ma dungog pa ang pito nga duha ka pot-pot means "good" "bye". Among balay kilid sa coke pero dungog ang pito gikan pantalan, so wala pay noise pollution adtong panahona.

Ang plete sa tricycle tag 25 centavos pa. Ang binangkal tag 5 centavos.

Gi mingaw ka no?

Hi Macky,
It is not only me who miss our old Bohol as you pictured in your message.  How you describe it, is just like the passing scene in my mind.  Of course, I remember everything and the sorroundings there,  at present it changes all to modern era and it is hard to recognized Tagbilaran especially that the young generations changes with. As I had related, was connected with the Prov'l. Fiscal's Office before, Capitol Bldg. probably people that familiar to me personally are unknown to you. My deceased father was a driver (Prov'l. Engr. Office).  Every time I was home had visited the new erected offices there near Gov.Aumentado's res., had often celebrated despidida party but sorry to say, that lot of those previous officemates, Officials passed away already.  Fiscal Angel Ucat, Jr. was one of my boss and I was the Sec. of 1st Asst. Prov'l Fiscal Bernaldez, Mrs. Ines Tirol's husband, UB owner.

Anyway, my flight is on the 9th of Dec this year. When you will be home? Your Family there in Tagb.?  I have noticed that you miss more our own Tagb.  Why not going home on Christmas?
