Bohol dads urge Davao-Tagbilaran flights

TAGBILARAN CITY — The city council here is seeking direct air transport services between the cities of Tagbilaran and Davao to boost the tourism industry in Bohol province.

The city council, in Resolution No. 09-78 adopted on July 31, called on Philippine Airlines, Cebu Pacific Air and Zest Air to explore the possibility of establishing direct flights between two cities.

Tagbilaran City Councilor Nerio Zamora II, who sponsored the resolution, said migrant Boholanos and Mindanaoans of Bohol descent were appealing for direct flights between the two cities.

“The direct Tagbilaran-Davao flights will bolster the tourism industry which is now flourishing in Bohol,” he added.

He said the Davao City Council already passed a resolution on April 15, 2008, requesting the three airline companies to establish the direct flights.

The Davao City Council, in Resolution No. 0768-08, said it was necessary and vital for a city to have direct transportation links with other cities and countries, citing the policy of the Davao City government to promote the city as a tourism, investment and trade destination.

The Davao council resolution also noted that Davao and Bohol were two of the country’s prime tourist destinations.

It said the current air route between Davao and Bohol is via Cebu. Davao City Councilor Conrado Baluran, who traces his roots to Loboc, Bohol, moved for the passage of the resolution.

Last June 23, the Bohol provincial board (PB) also passed a resolution requesting Zest Airways Incorporated to establish direct Davao-Tagbilaran flights.
