After passing the milestone of 200 million members, LinkedIn (LNKD) has been emailing thank-you notes to its most popular users.
But in doing so, it's making the professional social network look more like a clique-divided high school, where the popular kids rule.
LinkedIn members who are in the top 1%, 5% and 10% for profile views have been receiving congratulatory notes from the company and are encouraged to boast about their popularity on Twitter with the click of a button.
Notes with canned text like "Hurray! I have one of the top 1% most viewed @LinkedIn profiles for 2012" have been flooding Twitter. It's probably no coincidence that many of those LinkedIn users tweeting are beautiful women and handsome men. It's like the prom queens and kings of LinkedIn.
